This image was taken before dawn down at North Narrabeen Rock Pool. This is one of the largest rock pools in Australia. This image was a 3 minute exposure which captures a lovely blurring of the clouds. The interesting colours of the water are due to overhead lighting on the pool. This is a very simple but peaceful image. For those that want to find out how I produced this, I described my processing in detail in one of my blog posts You can read it here

Sydney is not only blessed by a beautiful coastline providing us with countless beaches, but also some of these beaches have a “rock pool” at the headland. These rock pools provide a great place for the locals to take a dip in the ocean without the waves. This is an abstract image taken at the edge of a thermal spring in the West Thumb geyser basin in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. While the image appears to not contain any living thing, the colors themselves are in fact a product of the microscopic organisms called Thermophiles which thrive at extremely high temperatures. When visiting Yellowstone, you will see different veins of colors surrounding the fumaroles, geysers and thermal pools. The various colors in these mats are different types of Thermophiles which thrive at specific temperatures or have preferences for alkaline, acidic, or sulphiric enviroments. The enviroment determines the type of Thermophile that lives there and this diversity creates the colors you see. The color in this image is exactly as it was taken by my camera. It is not a macro image. At the top right, the turquoise color is the very edge of the thermal pool, the white border is mineral deposits and the brown and yellow and orange colors are the Thermophile living in a mat surrounding the pool. / This image has sold as a laminated print and a matted print 3 times through RedBubble. /

Night time shot, taken in the backwaters of the River Murray, near Lyrup in the Riverland area of South Australia. Beautiful still night with mirror image reflections of the majestic dead river gums. BEST Viewed large. Canon 400D 18-55 lens. Processed in Photoshop CS3.

This photo is taken in a wonderful hotel in Mexico. The ruins of a house has became a swimmingpool. It was fun swimming from one room too another.

We found a pink girly bike on the side of that road on the way to this shoot so naturally it was added to the already huge pile of random stuff in the boot. I jumped in the pool with these crazy musicians and kept handing them props and directing them to complete various acts of underwater stupidity. James managed to stay dry by offering to operate the camera through a viewing window. I also shot some film with an underwater camera but I’ve been really slack and haven’t developed it yet. If I’m lucky, being in the hot car for this long will have screwed it up a bit and I’ll get magical surprises when I finally make some prints. models: Jase and Tom www.joobrien.com

Thought I’d play around with a slightly more surreal shot. The red light is from an overhead sodium light that casts a funky orange/red light on the pool. Great storm clouds brewing in the East around sunrise. Mona Vale pool is one of my favorites around Sydney. Enjoy.

Late afternoon, Lyrup flats between Renmark and Berri in the Riverland of South Australia. Afternoon shots whilst waiting for the sun to go down for a night time shoot. The clouds moved apart and left this diamond like section reflecting nicely on the still backwaters. Again a visit to one of my favourite places where these huge River gums stand defiant against nature, dead but not finished….... Canon 400D 18-55 lens, CIR Polarising filter. Three shot panoramic stitch in CS3 and converted to B&W in the same program.

One of the many thousands of rock pools along the Mornington Peninsula ocean beach ~ Victoria ~ Australia…A microcosm of life existing in miniature beneath the glassy surface. Time for the small fish, crustations, and seaweeds to relax and enjoy some peace before the incoming tide brings fresh cold water with it’s relentless surges….thanks for looking. / rgs, Rob.
