Haven’t seen all that many dogs here on RB, so thought I’d try this one. Was actually doing shots of a friend’s Chihuahuas (I know I spelled that wrong), and this black cocker from next door just saundered in, curled up and posed and said “You fool… WHY are you wasting time on those idiots… take me now while I’m in the mood”. So I did. The Chihuahuas hated me and the cocker. The friend loves dogs so she didn’t care.

I really saw this dog in Santa Fe, New Mexico (twice in a matter of two days in two different locations). I was happy I captured this one. It made me smile.
Gracie, a wirehaired fox terrier, is full of spunk and vitality. This portrait of her just makes a body want to laugh. I thought turning it into a card would be a nice way to celebrate the gift of humor.
A dog by Max Lecherman, aged 13. Acrylic on paper. Max’s second serious attempt at painting. Along with instruction in how to apply paint, he needed demonstration and a little help. Good effort, however.
Sheltie is short for Shetland Sheepdog, a herding breed that originates from the Shetland Islands off the northern tip of Scotland. / “What a cute miniature Collie!” “Look at the little Lassie!” “Is that a toy Collie?” / Every owner of a Shetland Sheepdog has heard and responded to countless comments such as these, but although Shelties bear a striking resemblance to Collies, they are a totally separate breed with differences in structure and temperament. And they are not a toy. The standard for Shelties states that they should measure between 13” and 16” at the shoulder. Most fall into the upper half of this range. The old guy in this photograph is our own Sheltie. His name in Strolchi, a German name which means “Little Tramp”. He was the smallest among his siblings and is one of the more rare Shelties which measure only 13” at the shoulder. We got him almost 14 years ago when he was 10 weeks old. Strolchi was not bred in a puppy mill but by an experienced, knowledgeable, European Shetland Sheepdog breeder, so his loyal, alert, enthusiastic, and charming personality is undisturbed. His luxurious coat as well as his sweet expression are only a few of his hallmarks, but we never bugged him with coaxing his ears into the correct carriage. He, as all Shelties, is happiest when the whole family is together in one room, enjoying each other’s company. In the Sheltie’s mind, the family is its flock, and a family spread throughout the house can lead to a very restless, pacing Sheltie. He lives to please and spreads his love, and when he turns on the sheltie cuteness it is impossible to resist him. / We love him with all our heart. Cane Corso (CC) :: Where Size, Power, Balance and Movement merge into the Ideal! / These dogs are classic Mastiffs without the loose skin of other related Mastiff breeds and were once used as cattle drivers. The Corso is a working breed and due to its history of boar hunting, guardian of people and farms, and butcher’s dog, they are required to function under high levels of stress. They are bred for strength, agility, temperament, endurance and, above all, companionship. Cane Corsos originating from the country of origin (Italy) tend to possess a more outgoing, stable temperament than their American counterpart. Cane Corsos are extremely loyal to their family and very aloof with strangers. They are a large breed of dog and take up lots of space on the couch, in the house and in the car. They drool and prefer to wipe their faces on their owners pants. Corsos like to sit close to their family and will sit on your feet, lean against you, often lay their heavy head in your lap. They like to follow you where ever you go and be a part of whatever you do. A cute, eight-week-old Corso puppy will soon turn into a large, dominant dog. That’s why it is very important that Corso get an early basic obedience education and live in a household that uses positive reinforcement and reward based training. Allow it to play, but never to jump! Trust me, you don’t want a 100++ pound mass of muscles jumping on you! Time, Commitment and Patience have their Rewards! Corsos long to be with people and require a couple hours a day of attention and exercise. Such noble dogs deserve nothing less! Puppy Time Sets of Two / / /
Here are Pixie, the black Cane Corso, and Tucker, the Beagle. The size difference may prevented other dogs from becoming friends; however, these two are playful pals. The dogs chase each other around, or Pixie (the Cane Corso) lies on the ground and lets Tucker (the Beagle) pretend to be dominant as the little dog jumps on her and chews her ears. They eat together and, when they sleep, Tucker lies against the big black dog to stay warm. The two dogs apparently draw comfort from each other. The bond that dogs can establish with other dogs and species is often dramatic and poignant. This is consistent with the idea that, although dogs are happiest when they are in a social situation, the species that they are interacting with is less important than the quality of the interactions. Beagle puppies are among the cutest critters on God’s earth. The Beagle’s soft brown eyes are probably his most appealing feature. One long gaze into the eyes and the potential owner is likely to become an actual owner, for the breed has mastered the trick of looking as if he doesn’t have a friend in the world. The cuteness of Beagle puppies has made them favorites of the pet store trade. However, Beagles are sociable dogs developed to work in packs. If a Beagle becomes an only pet, its family must be prepared to provide a lot of stimulation for the dog to keep him home. Otherwise, his need for companionship and his desire to follow his nose to adventure could lead him to adopt another family, get arrested for running at large, or worse. His wanderlust, need for activity, and loud voice make him unsuitable for sedentary families or for apartments or unfenced yards. And it’s the bay, or half-howl, that causes neighbors to curse the day you bought your pet. Beagles are wonderful in the right home, with the right person or family. If treated right they are one of the most amiable hounds and calm, tractable house pets. They are excellent child’s dogs, gentle, incredibly tolerant and always ready to join in a game or an adventure. Puppy Time Set of Two / ! / / /
My Yorkie, Molly, giving me kisses. This is before she got her latest haircut and grooming. :)
I took this photo in Paso Robles, California at the Justin Winery. Churchill is a basset hound who doubles as the winery greeter…definitely a people dog. (I adore dogs and cats…would adopt every one in the shelters if humanly possible.) Thanks for stopping by for a visit! FEATURED in California Sound with sincere thanks to the hosts! A Doxie and a Golden – Two of a kind! Golden Retrievers are without any doubt smart and loyal dogs. But the Dachshund is a good dog too, smart and fast, and a comedy show on its own. The ‘Wiener’ is an early warning system. The Golden only barks when necessary and is good for ‘effect’ when you consider intruders…big bark and big presence. It takes a special person to own a doxie. This Barking Sausage is very stubborn and an independent thinker, and a little difficult to housebreak. Goldens are good at paying attention and learn quickly. ‘Hot dogs’ do not care that they are small. Waldi (that’s the German nickname for dachshund) acts like a big dog in a small body, keeps up with the big dogs and will usually be the “boss”. Golden Retrievers want nothing more than our love. They are all about pleasing their family and know our every mood. Dackel, (that’s how the Dachshund is usually called in Germany) are playful, curious, and bold, but they prefer older, considerate children who respect their dog’s space and privacy. Golden’s are the best dog for kids of all ages. gentle, reliable and trustworthy, yet protective. Doxies ‘think’ that they can rule the world and have a great heart. Golden’s have a great heart and ‘know’ that they can rule the world. The Dachshund and the Golden Retriever are both very good dogs, and to own both of them is a lot of fun. Just make sure you have a good vacuum cleaner! Thank you for being a friend /
/ This is my hound, Jasper who was 3 months old when this was taken. / / Jasper is a true Viszla when it comes to lounging about on chairs, sofa’s and your bed if he can (well…. he tries very hard). / But he is a fantastic cuddler n snuggler and even though he’s still growing, he will try his best to snuggle or cuddle in any position! One of the most popular breeds in the USA, is the Labrador Retriever (also Labrador, or Lab for short). They are loyal, loving, affectionate and patient, making great family dogs. Hershey, the chocolate lab, is huge, but he has the sweetest friendliest personality one can think of. He loves everyone, and everyone loves him. Laminated Print /
