My mother smiled as she bounced me / up and down upon her knee / and as she sung these Rhymes three

If we ponies could talk, we’d tell you some things, / No saddles, no headgear, no snaffle bit rings.
A poem I wrote back in 1984. I entered it in a poetry competition (in “Rider” magazine) and won second place! It pretty much sums up what ponies think of their riders!!

Mauled by a mountain lion, left to die alone on the range, Spring’s amazing story of survival is just beginning.
I’m not talking about a pedigree, / Just a lil’ paddock pony.
Part of this i found in an old diary from when i was 11/12. Edited it a bit before posting.
Written when i was 11/12 when i first got my pony Abbie =]
It’s the million dollar horse, / Who belongs to me. / It is she who beholds / My destiny.
Another entry from when i was 11/12 years old… Once again relating to my pony Abbie. She got the label ‘million dollar horse’ after taking out the wooden fences of her yard during a storm. The stables owner was not amused as he had to rebuild the yard & didn’t appreciate people comparing the rotten woods value to a ‘million dollar horse/pony’...

Thank you to Alison from the ART & STORIES MADE FOR CHILDREN group for inspiring me to write this wee poem for their new poetry challenge. My Muse…who else but the titled four legged wonder lol!! I think if you discover the magical quality of horses at a tender age, that love never dies. Hopefully the words embue the cheeky spirit of these wee horses and the enchantment we feel as children on first meeting these wonderful creatures. And here he is…The Little Wild Wanderer! / Available as cards, prints & posters. /
Clip. Clop. / Oh what a to-do! / The ponies have escaped! / And where on earth were you?
I have been reading the Thelwell pony comics recently, the ponies in them remind me of Abz & Smarty so i attempted to come up with a poem similar to the kind featured in Thelwell’s books. Enjoy =)
Fear flashed in colt eyes, like late lightnin’ in skies / Or the cock-eyed blaze on his face. / No matter where he ran, the big lion began ...
Not really much to tell here. Just one life, blending into another, with the catalyst of the first’s passing.
If I could draw I would be able to capture the beauty of this moment. / Since I do not possess such skill it is up to words to describe.
Recollection from sitting in paddock admiring Abbie as she grazed before bringing her in for her evening meal.
