This honey bee on my Ceanothus in my back garden was so weighed down by pollen – and yet there always seems to be room for a bit more!
today was a great day for butterflies being out in cades cove, finally had some flowers blooming. caught this bee hanging out with two black swallowtails and what looks like a great spangled frilitary
I’ve been having to get very close to the butterflies with my macro lens, but I decided to stalk them this time with my 400mm lens. I could keep a safe distance without scaring them away and came up with pretty good results on this Gulf Fritillary with its wings outspread. I’ll have to try this more often and see what happens.

Origin: Islands of Indonesia pollen, fruits In the wild, lories feed on nectar, pollen, fruits, and the occasional insect. All lories have a tongue that is specially adapted with a brush-like tip composed of elongated papillae. This feature enables the birds to collect pollen from flowers and compress it into a form suitable for swallowing. They play a major role in the pollinating or trees and flowering plants in their native Indonesia coastal and mountain forests. East opens the day at dawn, / Releasing the Sun / From night’s ebony box. / The mind awakes / with childlike delight. / Spring fills the breeze / with sweet flowers and the / shimmery sound of bells. / Here the birds unfurl their wings / and all the world takes flight. Elizabeth Barrette Ostara brings an optimistic energy as we celebrate the beginning of Spring and a turning point as the Northern Hemisphere once again tilts back towards the Sun. Until this tilt takes place, now is the time of balance – equal day and night – yet also a time of anticipation, as from this night forward, the light once again conquers the darkness. There’s a farmer down the road from where I live who sells fresh produce and plants fields of sunflower seeds just for his customers’ viewing enjoyment. I visited his fields recently and had a joyous time snapping the sunflowers. A painted lady butterfly landed on this one and rested a while as I clicked away.

The best-known bee species is the European honey bee, which, as its name suggests, produces honey, as do a few other types of bee. Human management of this species is known as beekeeping or apiculture.Bees gathering nectar may accomplish pollination, but bees that are deliberately gathering pollen are more efficient pollinators. It is estimated that one third of the human food supply depends on insect pollination, most of which is accomplished by bees, especially the domesticated European honey bee
Just trying out my new macro lense this morning in the garden; and very pleased with the result. Canon EOS1000D with 100mm macro. Steve is the Principal Ecologist at EnviroKey, a specialist ecological consultancy that undertakes surveys, research and education programs across Australia.
It really looks as though that is a stream of Pollen this Bumble is sucking up-can’t believe my little compact has picked up so much detail- so not really sure what it is exactly! Anyway always good to see the bees around-enjoy!
