Arlington West is an ongoing display of the casualties in Iraq on East Beach in Santa Barbara, to protest against the war in Iraq, and increase the public awareness regarding the military and political fallout of staying there. Each Sunday morning thousands of crosses, as the number of the fallen, for that day, are placed in the sand and volunteers are providing the public with up to the moment information on casualties plus individual stories on the fallen. This image was taken at memorial day 2007 as a tribute and memorial and as a cry for peace… The combination of the loss and hope for peace left a profound impact on me. / Eyal Nahmias First place: Personal meaning challenge @ Photography Challenge Group Featured: Photography Challenge Group, October 2009 / Featured: Male Photography Group, September 2009 / Featured: Street Photography and Photojournalism Group, January 2009 Nikon D70
Dissection is cruel and unnecessary. With the alternative methods available today, schools can save thousands of dollars AND thousands of lives. Some things to consider are psychological impact, education, animal welfare, environment, cost, and chemical exposure. / / ALL proceeds will be donated to the Physicians Committee For Responsible Medicine. / / “To go against the dominant thinking of your friends, of most of the people you see every day, is perhaps the most difficult act of heroism you can have.” / ~ Theodore H. Mixed Media & Digital Illustration. When you hold yourself hostage, be it in a physical or mental nature, you may be depriving yourself of something potentially beautiful, holding back from the truth trying to cage away the bits you don’t like and revealing only what you think others will approve of. This is a re-do of an older piece. This like the original is painted on an old recycled formica top table top. They are heavy but make a dramatic canvas and background. I have maybe twenty more on tables out there in the world. The size of this is roughly 6’x3’, the original is more like 8’ wide. Sam Dantone
acrylic on canvas / The Beatles “revolution” lyrics on my mind; You say you want a revolution / Well, you know / We all want to change the world / You tell me that it’s evolution / Well, you know / We all want to change the world / But when you talk about destruction / Don’t you know that you can count me out / Don’t you know it’s gonna be all right / all right, all right You say you got a real solution / Well, you know / We’d all love to see the plan / You ask me for a contribution / Well, you know / We’re doing what we can / But when you want money / for people with minds that hate / All I can tell is brother you have to wait / Don’t you know it’s gonna be all right / all right, all right / Ah ah, ah, ah, ah, ah… You say you’ll change the constitution / Well, you know / We all want to change your head / You tell me it’s the institution / Well, you know / You better free you mind instead / But if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao / You ain’t going to make it with anyone anyhow / Don’t you know it’s gonna be all right / all right, all right / all right, all right, all right / all right, all right, all right
Barack Obama – Change for America, for the World, for All of Us – The Audacity of Hope On November 4, 2008, Barack Obama defeated John McCain and became the first African American to be elected President of the United States. In his victory speech, delivered before a crowd of hundreds of thousands of his supporters in Grant Park in Chicago, Illonois, Obama proclaimed that “change has come to America.” Born in Hawaii, Obama will be the first U.S. President born outside the contiguous United States. He also will be fifth youngest President at the date of accession and the second since Lincoln whose primary political base is Illinois. This portrait illustrates and epitomizes the audacity of hope. President Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America on January 20, 2009. Selected information courtesy of Wikipedia. Our planet is slowly dying of disrespect. Governments and industries are not doing enough to stop the global warming process. People have changed their daily habits, sometimes quite a bit, to help control pollution, but in many cases, it’s only as long as there is no extra cost or too much effort involved. In the meantime the Earth is sick, bleeding to death. Another composite created for a challenge. I’m really pleased with myself because I wanted a texture layer with splatters or drippings or leaking of some kind, and I was about to purchase a stock image, when I decided to try making my own. I went through my things, and picked a tube of bright red poster paint, which I diluted with a bit of water to make it manageable, added corn syrup for texture and a splash of concentrated beef stock to darken the mix. I used a kitchen brush to make the splatters on an old board and made several shots. When my son walked in, for a moment he thought that I had injured myself seriously or that I gone mad and butchered the dog! ;-) Position cursor over the thumbnails for more details on how these photos were used Featured in the Anticonsumerism group on March 16, 2009 1st place winner in the Experimenting with Media challenge of the Experimental Group on March 19, 2009 Finished in 8th position of Top Ten in the Unconventional Flower challenge of the Unconventional Artistry group on May 8, 2009 Also available as a T-shirt in my greeting cards and clothing portfolio and while over there , perhaps you could take the opportunity to add me my to your watchlist… ;-) /
