“Let’s stick with cutesy…” is hardly what R.K. told me when I asked her to help remake this police lineup painting. (click me for police lineup girl) “Hello Trouble!” is actually what came outta her mouth during our shoot while she even played the classic by Buck Owens for me in the background. Her rad husband did the background too! I know I’m not even close to 6 feet tall…& until she believed in this, I didn’t have a vixenesque shot in my portfolio. Nobody would take this project on with me until Riley Kern. And now it’s the one shot constantly asked for in prints, or saught after for permission to use. Not only that, but she’s taken my motto, my tattoo – the very attitude that get’s me through many hard days & made a signature shot outta it for me. It’s the one shot I felt comfortable naming “Hello Trouble” Where are my manners!? Let me introduce you to Riley… She’s the honey bee of western pin ups. Her attention to the style surpasses any I’ve ever seen. She pays homage to many classic western pin ups, including Petty’s little stand up base girl…which was mimicked to near perfection. (click me to see Riley Kern) Luckily for all of us she’s decided to pick up the camera herself & get learntt on the stuff!....Not so lucky however, for many photographers out there. So while she plucks out her pretty pictures for ya, she’s drowning out the mediocre guys for us too.

This photo was taken at the funeral of the first police officer killed while on duty in my city, Windsor, Ontario, in over 125 years. It was also the largest funeral in at least fifty years, if not longer. The officer’s children’s classes came, and as high school students we were paired up with them to watch them for the day. This was my student… I think he was ten at the time…

New-York’s answer to fare evasion…

During a relatively peaceful 2002 protest against the World Bank in Washington, D.C., anti-war demonstrators began to change the situational climate of the march. Tensions between protesters and police, who were expecting a violent demonstration, began to rise. Police began to arrest everyone that they managed to surround inside Pershing Park, guilty, as well as innocent bystanders alike. In relative anticipation of the police’s reaction, this young man wrote the telephone numbers of civil defense lawyers on his arms before the demonstrations even began.

The once ubiquitous Irish-American New York police officer stands at attention like a lone citadel. The classic Irish cop, right on down to his old-school helmet, drooping mustache, and paunch. / Original work was done in watercolors and gouache on Arches cold-press, late 2006.

The police were stopping us and pushing us to the side of the road … in fact onto the verge to enable this colossal ‘thing’ – part of a turbine maybe? to drive up the Great Glen from Fort William. They eventually stopped it in the entrance to the Commando Memorial so all the tourists who had stopped to see the Commandoes would be stuck … I was so glad we were not driving in the same direction.

These are actually door mock ups, inside one of the buildings at the abandoned hospital. The police uses some of these buildings for training, and these frames and doors here are used to practice with the door battering ram, which was laying in one of the corners of this room.

Original was oil on paper, reworked a little and probably will be reworked some more. Routine intercept can be full of surprises. The police car depicted is an old style Divisional Van which is the work horse of any police station. It has a funny shape and is uniquely Australian.

Tensions between protesters and police, who were expecting a violent demonstration, started to rise. Police began to arrest everyone that they managed to surround inside Pershing Park, guilty, as well as innocent bystanders alike. These demonstrators were pulled from the crowd, handcuffed and thrown on an awaiting Metro bus. No one was read their rights as bystanders looked on in horror.
