This little guy was at the Melbourne Aquarium. I believe he is a Dendrobates tinctorius.
This desert plant, though beautiful, has a dark side to it…

Some poison acts very slowly
Sorry, don’t even have a local name for this one. The Shan of Mae Hong Son province in northwest Thailand call them by the generic name ‘hep buer’, which means poisonous fungi. The ones that are good to eat, and there are many, seem to have attracted much nicer, descriptive names. This one was alone, in a native pine forest at about 1000 metres absl, and when I saw it today, I thought the curved and colourful stem was quite distinctive. The laced leaf next to it, from a dried dipterocarp ‘propeller’ seed, was a bonus. Any names or knowledge on this fungi is appreciated.

Phyllobates terribilis, the Golden Poison Frog or the Golden Dart Frog, is a poison dart frog endemic to the Pacific coast of Colombia. This amphibian of the dendrobatidae family is currently considered the most poisonous vertebrate worldwide. Nikon D80 – Nikkor 18-105mm VR lens
Stark, skeletal fungi in mixed deciduous forest next to my home in the mountains of Mae Hong Son province, Thailand.
This is a natural forming algae that covered my favorite, peaceful quiet spot. Lost Lagoon. It was an aqua blue and a bright green algae that formed, according to the Park Board, who i spoke with about it . . . it is a rare phenomenon. Some articles I have read puts animals (dogs mainly) in danger if they come in contact with it. Some reports say death within 30 minutes?! I did of course see the beauty in it and got a few interesting abstracts from it.

A delicious breakfast cereal brought to you by nature. Just pop them in you mouth and down some milk and feel them pop and explode in your mouth. The kids will love ‘em and fun for the whole family. Or maybe they are the Pigskin Poison Puffball (Scleroderma citrinum). Edibility: poisonous; they are known to cause nausea and vomiting. Let’s play it safe and assume it’s the latter shall we? Found around the forest preserves near Maple Lake in northern Illinois.
This enormous red fungi reminds me so much of a tomato pizza sprinkled with cheese! /
Deadly and Not Deadly…. / The ‘plain’ brown mushrooms with the very light ring on the rusty stems is DEADLY…Gallerina autumnus. These have a rust color spore print. Unmistakeble. Gills are usually a brownish rust color. Caps are tacky when wet. / / The reddish/brown capped mushrooms with the vevelty brown stem is NOT deadly…Flammulina velutipes. These have a white spore print. Unmistakeble again. Gills are a pale to golden cream color. These caps are sticky to touch…sometimes even with ‘goo’ when wet. / Many people, including fellow mushroom hunting friends of mine have made the mistake of mis-ID’ing this mushroom. / KNOW YOUR MUSHROOMS! / Do not eat if you are not sure.
i got the remedy…..
