THIS IS AN IMAGE AND A STORY TO GO WITH IT THAT IS A PROTEST OF WHALE SLAUGHTER WITH ME TAKING THE CHARACTER OF THE MATRIARCH AS SHE DIES WOUNDED BY THE WHALERS SWORD. HER ONLY CONCERN, AS SHE DIES DROWNING IN HER OWN BLOOD IS THAT OF HER NEW CALF AND HOW SHE WILL FARE AND SHE PSYCHICALLY KNOWS THAT THE POD WILL RAISE HER AND CARE FOR HER AND SHE ALSO KNOWS THE FACES OF THE MEN WHO PUT HER ON THE KILLING FLOOR AND THE GREED ON THEIR FACES
THE MATRIARCH WAS QUICKLY FADING AND THE LARGER MALES TRY TO KEEP HER AFLOAT BUT KNEW OF THE STORIES OF THE HARPOON AND IT’S PAINFUL END …
IN THIS STORY/POEM IT IS A PROTEST AGAINST THE POACHING OF WHALES AND I WRITE THE NARRATIVE FROM THE MATRIARCH OF THE POD AND HOW AS SHE PASSED FROM THIS LIFE, HER ONLY THOUGHTS WERE OF HER NEW CALF AND THE GREED OF THE HEARTLESS WHALER WHO CHEERED AS THE HARPOON FOUND IT’S MARK AND STORIES THAT WERE SANG ABOUT THE 100’S OF YEARS OF DEATH TO THESE CREATURES OF PEACE.

Fear is no excuse… / to destroy that we do not understand. SAVE THE SHARKS!
We joined two rangers on a day long anti poaching patrol. It was afterwards that I found out that there was a “shoot to kill” practice if rangers came upon poachers. Since poachers were generally better armed than the rangers, this was not a harmless situation. Particularly not since I wore a red shirt. ..fortunately the day was uneventful in this respect.. However, we saw plenty of wild life.
All proceeds of this image will be donated to assist in the protection of our animals from human stupidity. I know… I know… Good luck with that. (sad, sad sigh)
I get mad sometimes because folks want art that is as obvious as… as… as.. “a fried egg on a plate”. Just my little yoke you understand !

Save the grey wolf….... The wolf suffers a negative image problem and despite its ability to adapt and therefore live close to man, it continues to take the blame – sometimes unfairly – for attacks on livestock. The animal is hunted in some countries without restriction and in others licences to hunt it are issued without biological or ecological understanding of the situation. Poaching is widespread and is the cause of the biggest losses. Although it can coexist with humans, it needs safe areas in which to retreat. If this problem is not addressed, wolf communities will fragment as a result of moving into unsuitable habitat.

The King Vulture In flight coming down to land….... The King Vulture, is a large Central and South American bird in the New World vulture family Cathartidae. This vulture lives predominantly in tropical lowland forests stretching from southern Mexico to northern Argentina. The adult King Vulture is the most strikingly colored of the New World Vultures. King Vultures have lived up to 30 years in captivity, though their lifespan in the wild is unknown. This vulture uses urohydrosis, defecating on its legs, in order to lower its body temperature. Despite its bill and large size, it is relatively unaggressive at a kill and will normally back down rather than fight. The King Vulture lacks a voice box, though it can make low croaking noises and wheezing sounds. Its only natural predators are snakes, which will prey upon the vulture’s eggs and young, and large cats such as jaguars, which may surprise and kill an adult vulture at a carcass. The King Vulture feeds solely on carrion and, unlike some New World Vultures, is not known to kill sick or dying animals for food.It often eats stranded fish along river banks, but does not come to village refuse dumps for food.Though it has keen eyesight which can help it locate food. There is evidence that suggests a decline in population, though it is not significant enough to cause it to be listed. This decline is due primarily to habitat destruction and poaching.

It sounds weird, huh? But after I’ve looked at an artist’s artwork, particularly an artist I admire, I turn to their favorites list. You can tell a lot about a person by their favorites, although that isn’t why I go through them. No, I’m always looking to collect more art for my favorites list. That is why I call it “poaching favorites.” A lot of peope would probably think they were browsing their own list, at least for a while. I always figure that if I’ve enjoyed someone’s artwork, then the artwork they like probably runs toward similar tastes to what I like. (I’m usually right.)

There are three living species: the African Bush Elephant, the African Forest Elephant and the Asian Elephant (also known as the Indian Elephant). Other species have become extinct since the last ice age, the Mammoths, dwarf forms of which may have survived as late as 2,000 BC, being the best-known of these. They were once classified along with other thick skinned animals in a now invalid order, Pachydermata. Elephants are the largest land animals. The elephant’s gestation period is 22 months, the longest of any land animal. At birth it is common for an elephant calf to weigh 120 kilograms (260 lb). They typically live for 50 to 70 years, but the oldest recorded elephant lived for 82 years. The largest elephant ever recorded was shot in Angola in 1956. This male weighed about 12,000 kilograms (26,000 lb), with a shoulder height of 4.2 metres (14 ft), a metre (yard) taller than the average male African elephant. The smallest elephants, about the size of a calf or a large pig, were a prehistoric species that lived on the island of Crete during the Pleistocene epoch. The elephant has appeared in cultures across the world. They are a symbol of wisdom in Asian cultures and are famed for their memory and intelligence, where they are thought to be on par with cetaceans and hominids.Aristotle once said the elephant was “the beast which passeth all others in wit and mind”[9]. The word “elephant” has its origins in the Greek ἐλέφας, meaning “ivory” or “elephant”. Healthy adult elephants have no natural predators, although lions may take calves or weak individuals.] They are, however, increasingly threatened by human intrusion and poaching. Once numbering in the millions, the African elephant population has dwindled to between 470,000 and 690,000 individuals according to a March 2007 estimate.[While the elephant is a protected species worldwide, with restrictions in place on capture, domestic use, and trade in products such as ivory, CITES reopening of “one time” ivory stock sales, has resulted in increased poaching. Certain African nations report a decrease of their elephant populations by as much as two-thirds, and populations in certain protected areas are in danger of being eliminated. Since recent poaching has increased by as much as 45%, the current population is unknown (2008). / / / LINE DRAWING SERIES / I have sub-sectioned this series to make my life a whole lot easier. Oils on canvas (20×30 inches) I have been working on this painting for a very long time (probably more than a year – on and off) and I always found something more to do. (Artist’s dilemma – never knowing when to stop!!!) But now I think there is nothing more I can do without ‘over-doing’ so this painting is now finished! Poaching significantly reduced the population of elephants in certain regions during the 20th century. The use of elephant tusks (ivory) is still greedily being sought by stupid and irresponsible humans. During my visit to an elephant sanctuary in South Africa one of the wonderful keepers explained that we no longer have the huge, magnificent ‘tuskers’ as hunters virtually wiped out the gene pool.
Red panda’s are illegally hunted for pets, for their gall bladders and bile used in Asian medicines, and their paws which are used in soups. / Their habitat loss is due to the expanding of Palm Oil plantations. The bears are killed when plantation owners eat the Palm Oil trees and by the illegal logging of tropical rain forests. / To help stop the extinction of Sun Bear’s, do not use products containing Palm tree oil. Palm tree oil can be found in products such as lipglosses, processed foods and margarine. It is possible that some wood products that you buy could be made from illegally harvested trees. / Check labels, Don’t take for granite this beautiful creature.
