Chambered Nautilus Nautilus pompilius can usually be found on the sea floor at depths of 150m+, it swims into shallower water at night to prey on small fish. Nautilus use their strong sense of smell to track their prey, and because of their ability to adjust the distribution of gas with each chamber, are deft at moving through the water column. DEPTH RANGE: 200-300 m. DISTRIBUTION: PNG, central Indo-Pacific. / View my underwater collection here Take a look at my other photos / Klipz Card Shop Add me to your watchlist /

Madang Papua New Guinea © Vicki Ferrari This was taken at Madang Papua New Guinea, back about 1988 or 1989. This is a scan of the 8X12 print that is in my original portfolios.
