The shapes and textures of wild grasses fascinate me

A cute astronaut rabbit isn’t feeling the greatest when it suddenly and explosively vomits up an enormous plume of happy space-maggots. / Better out than in, little guy.

Incognita’s involuntary incarceration in the Oubliette had left her decidedly fractious. Acearn’s fabulous image of the raven Acearn is, without doubt, one of the finest animal photographers on rb. I was forced to take liberties with the original—but please be reassured that no animals were harmed in the process.

Pele is the “Fire Goddess” of the Hawaiian Islands. She has moved from island to island, across the chain, breathing fire along her path. Today Pele resides on the Big Island of Hawaii, where she is active and on display for anyone who dares come close enough. This image is of Haleakala Crater, on Maui. Pele last lives here 230 years ago, but may return. As I hiked alone through this 100 square mile volcanic crater, I could sense Pele’s presence in the hot dry air. Pele is powerful, but not to be feared. If you show respect to the Maddam Pele, she will control her temper and show mercy. You must treat lightly in such sacred places.

Once a victim of plume hunters, the great egret has made a comeback and is common throughout America’s wetlands but is rare in Canada. I took this photo on a lake in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This egret has a feather in its bill, not surprising as it is constantly preening!
The Masked Ball / / This beautiful textured plant reminded me of feathers at a Masked Ball.
