The oni is a Japanese folkore character that takes on a variety of visual forms and can have just as many symbolic meanings. for example, they are used to ward away bad luck, much as gargoyles in Western tradition, and are commonly used in buildings. My design took its own direction and the oni pictured seems to have become tangled up with an octopus! Scotty /
Blossom’s_Photo_Gallery Sunflower and Bees The sunflower (Helianthus annuus) is an annual plant in the family Asteraceae and native to the Americas, with a large flowering head. The stem can grow as high as 3 meters (9 3/4 ft), and the flower head can reach 30 cm (11.8 in) in diameter with the “large” seeds. The term “sunflower” is also used to refer to all plants of the genus Helianthus, many of which are perennial plants. / What is usually called the flower is actually a head of numerous florets (small flowers) crowded together. The outer florets are the sterile ray florets and can be yellow, maroon, orange, or other colours. The florets inside the circular head are called disc florets, which mature into what are traditionally called “sunflower seeds,” but are actually the fruit of the plant. The inedible husk is the wall of the fruit and the true seed lies within the kernel. The florets within the sunflower’s cluster are arranged in a spiralling pattern. Whenever I see sunflowers, their little centers look like happiness to me. They always make me smile. I had several in a small bouquet and moved them this way and that to see what textures and colors would pop. Did you know sunflowers are used to make so many things? They provide humans and animals with food in the form of seeds and oil. The leaves are used as fodder, the flowers yield a yellow dye, and the seeds contain oil and are used for food. The oil is used for cooking, as an ingredient of soaps and paints, and as a lubricant. WOW! What a wonderful little plant. ;o) Still life, Mission Viejo, CA, USA. May your days be blessed with joy, / May your friends be loyal and kind, / Love and sunshine to you. Taken with the iPhone camera, started the rework of the image in one of the iPhone apps. Completed the watercolor work in Photoshop with multiple layers of charcoal, pastel, blur, ink outlines, etc. Used the natural brushes to finish the blending for the effect I wanted. Since I travel a lot, I don’t like to take my Canon with me. The camera bag is another piece of carry on and I cannot handle all of it. The iPhone has allowed me to experiment with the captures and create other pieces of art with it. Very fun tool. Mission Viejo, CA, USA
