  • A storm rolls in over the Masai Mara plains

  • This is one amazing island that you all must try to get to, if you don’t mind four days in rough seas on a boat that is!!! But it is truly worth it…. This image of these king penguins was taken at a place called “Salisbury Plain”, where there are approximately 250 000 penguins! The sound as you come over the hill is tremendous, not to mention the smell!! They are so friendly and try to come up to you, but you are supposed to stay five meters away! / / (South Georgia – on the Antarctic trip) / / / / / / / / / / / / / /

  • I doubt most people are even aware that the Eastern plains of Colorado is actually in Tornado alley….the summers out here can be not only dangerous but deadly as well. Generally I try to stay away from this part of my state in the late spring and summer months…tornado’s just scare the heck out of me! Though I must admit, I would sure go chasing them with with storm chasers, and it is my understanding that for a $100- a day, you can take a trip with them doing just that. I may have to do this next summer, camera gear in tow :) I captured this on a late summer evening, oddly enough looking east, the opposite direction of the Sunflowers Fields I photographed. This supercell caused some havoc some 75 miles away from me, and later in the evening dropped down several twisters. However, what got me was the light, and how the whole storm was reflecting the sunset, even though the sun had already set. It is amazing to think that even though something as beautiful as this in nature, can also be deadly. • I did this painting in very thick acrylics. I thought of the Fancy Dance competition with all their regalia then decided to use color theory in their dance outfits so the battle is just not in the dance but in the colors.

  • One of many shots taken from my wonderful balloon trip from Methven above the Canterbury Plains, South Island, New Zealand. This is the third in the set following on from preparing for liftoff and inflation I chose this photo because it shows the beautiful patchwork fields that spread as far as the eye can see; the beautiful Southern Alps; the unique and typical braided rivers of the area; and the irrigation canal that siphons underneath the river. I know you won’t be able to feel the exhilleration that I fellt, but hope this image gives you some idea. For those of you who have already seen this image, my apologies – I uploaded it again because it appears there was a problem with the original upload.

  • This mandala is representative of the medicine of BEAR, which for Native American peoples, is considered (along with the wolf) as one of the last true symbols of the primal, natural world, and many ecologists believe that how humans respond and protect their lands and their future will be the most honest depiction of how serious humanity is about preservation of our environment and the natural resources within it. Also, the bear is considered kin to himans, because, like birds, it can stand and walk upon two legs. / Bear teaches us to go within and awaken the potentials inherent and bring them to the world and apply them. Introspection that makes accomplishing goals and dreams that we carry come to fruition. Becoming like BEAR and entering the safety of the womb-cave, we must attune ourselves to the energies of the Eternal Mother (Earth), and receive nourishment from the Great Void (unconscious/universe), where all solutions and answers live in harmony with the questions that fill our realities. / Each and every being has the capacity to quiet the mind, enter the silence and KNOW. / Bear resides in the West of the medicine wheel, symbolic of our intuitive/feminine side or right brain and to hibernate, bear travels within the four lobes where the pineal gland resides (lying just under the pituitary gland, behind the eyes, highly responsive to light waves)also resonating our Crown Chakra, the control center for the effective functioning of our physical, emotional and mental selves. / This also links us to our faith, attitudes, beliefs, values, conscious, courage and humanitarianism. This level and power abandons intellect and EGO to the power of passionate experience and “knowing”. / Bear medicine is ultimately knowing yourself ~ your body, mind and spirit ~ using your strengths to overcome your weaknesses, whilst knowing also that both are necessary in our evolution. Drawing photographed and edited, colored with wacom pen in photoshop 7 with redfield plug-in fractilius filter and coloring adjustments to finalize.

  • ! This image currently has been viewed 162 times Featured in Rural Around The Globe on 2 November 2009 Location: Taken last winter at FortWhyteAlive our Nature Center on the southwest edge of Winnipeg, Manitoba,Canada In life, whether you are a plant, an insect, an animal or a human being, there are five basic essential components needed to survive. They are Air, Shelter, Food, Water and Space. Here is a typical shelter that the Aboriginal People used on the prairies many years ago. They were able to assemble it in a day, as they used to follow the bison herds on the prairies. Much of their food, shelter, clothing and tools all came from the Bison. So when the herd moved, so did they. Many of their daily rituals revolved around nature. Example; The Tipi was made using 13 poles. The 13 poles in the tipi represents the 13 full moons we have in a given year….When you enter a tipi you go to the left and circle around in a clockwise direction. This represents the way of the sun…The door of the tipi always faces East, to meet the rising sun. The Aboriginal People relied on the land to survive. It was sacred and they recognized that every living thing was of importance. Plus they only used what they needed. Nothing ever went to waste. A good lesson we SHOULD all be following today. I serve as a volunteer interpreter at the Center, and this is part of the written teachings, as we take the children through their many nature programs. Camera Details: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi, 55mm Lens, Aperture exp 5.6, Shutter speed 1/750, ISO 100 HDR enhanced….Hand held…. blending five exposures…. +2,+1,0,-1,-2 using Photomatix HDR software
