/ Listen to this song here / I woke up at seven and my body was vibrating / I was wrapped up in a blanket / I was grey damp and sore / the bedroom was an engine / and my heartbeat was erratic / (like i think I’m at the racing like the night before) I remember one girl standing / one was sitting on the ground / one was holding me up / the other pulling me down / and I couldn’t decide which one was real / because there wasn’t a sound / (like I was pregnant again… ) I woke up at seven and my body was vibrating / I was wrapped up in a blanket / I was grey damp and sore / the bedroom was an engine / and my heartbeat was erratic / (like i think I’m at the racing like the night before) “Don’t move don’t smile don’t blink don’t think don’t even breathe” She said / “or the photograph will spoil / And cut you off at the head” / So I was sucking / I was sucking like a fat lady would / but I couldn’t hold it down another second / (bleagh!) / “don’t twitch don’t shout don’t think don’t even breathe” she said / “or the photograph will spoil and cut you off at the head” / so I was sweating / I was sweating like a fat lady would… / and I woke up / with a man inside my mouth (this won’t hurt at all… ) The Cure from the Album The Head On The Door
Often the storm chasing day ends not with the last glow of the setting sun, but with a photogenic show of pyrotechnics dancing from cloud to cloud and into the ground and lasting well into the night. This strike was captured just a few miles from my home after a long day of driving and looking for marvelous supercells and their awe-inspiring structures. Typically, any isolated cells that form during the day in western Oklahoma will race through the portions of Oklahoma that I call home, I just have to drive back ahead of the racing squall line and on such days will end the hunt with a tripod and a camera on this gravel road. It isn’t a part of my public offered storm chasing tours, but instead just my time to relax, snap shutters and enjoy my favorite hobby – lightning photography. I’ve always hoped for a dead centered strike at the end of this long gravel driveway. So many times I have closed my eyes and envisioned this very shot. Then, one night in 2006 after a long day’s work of hunting down tornadoes I ended my chase day in this fashion, opened the shutter and waited – “bang” – I had it! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Be sure to check out my company, StormTours.com. It’s a great opportunity for anyone who wants to chase storms to improve their lightning photography skills and see awe-inspiring photogenic storms. www.stormtours.com AND www.stormchase.com

At the end of a long 14 hour game drive, there’s nothing better than standing with a cold beer and watching the sun set over the plains, before heading back to camp for something to eat! / / (Masai Mara – Kenya) / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /

This was the first mating action of the morning for these lions, which is usually the most violent (as you can see here)! We were really lucky to find them just after first light while the park was still empty! / / / (Samburu National Park – Kenya) / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /
WILD & FREE / / South Georgia is one amazing island that you all must try to get to, if you don’t mind four days in rough seas on a boat that is!!! But it is truly worth it…. This image was taken at a place called “Salisbury Plain”, where there are approximately 250 000 penguins! The sound as you come over the hill is tremendous, not to mention the smell!! Nearly forgot to say that they are king penguins. / / (South Georgia – on an Antarctic trip) / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /

In July 2007 I did my first ever snow shoe walk from Falls Creek out past Pretty Valley to Tawonga Huts and the Niggerheads then over Mt Fainter and down to Bogong Village. The downhills aren’t as fun as my crossies but the uphill and flats are a dream much easier manoeuvrability for photography too. Great trip had some good weather (the following day was a whiteout). Love the way f22 on my fisheye lens creates this sunburst effect, doesn’t work very well with a dark foreground but with this highly reflective snow it’s a winner. Just after I completed this trip I got a phone call from someone who had heard about an exhibition I did earlier in the year and who had specifically wanted a picture of the Victorian Alps, they ended up buying a 12”x30” framed print of this one. A photo from my project “Latvian Landscapes”.
Image for a challenge using plain white paper. Using long exposure and torchlight to light the area, this is what I came up with. exp – 8 seconds / f3.5 / iso 80 / FL 31mm / eveready torch with piano certificate held in front to diffuse the torchlight, only other props include sticky tape and one sheet of plain white photocopy paper, and lots of patience. At one stage, a rotating multi-coloured disco light was involved, but this was soon abandoned due to the law of physics/light not matching the image in my head :(
Well it is, some might take that a little bit too literally. :-)
A rural scene from the Hunter Valley in Australia, with a few textures and effects added to it.
On the wide open plains of the Kruger National Park, South Africa, we happened upon this large, lone bull. He seemed to be going somewhere, as he detoured around us slightly, wary of our clicking and whispering. When the brief encounter was over, we both went on our way, perhaps, I’d like to think, better for the meeting…

They were able to assemble it in a day, as they used to follow the bison herds on the prairies. Much of their food, shelter, clothing and tools all came from the Bison. So when the herd moved, so did they. Many of their daily rituals revolved around nature. For example; The Tipi was made using 13 poles. The 13 poles in the tipi represents the 13 full moons we have in a given year….When you enter a tipi you go to the left and circle around in a clockwise direction. This represents the way of the sun…The door of the tipi always faces East, to meet the rising sun. The Plains Cree relied on the land to survive. It was sacred and they recognized that every living thing was of importance. Plus they only used what they needed. Things never went to waste. A good lesson we SHOULD all be following today. I serve as an interpreter at the Center, and this is part of the written teachings, as we take the children through their many nature programs.
