  • Bowl of stir fried udon noodles garnished with black sesame seeds and fresh mint with green chopsticks Karin’s Fabulous Stir Fried Udon Recipe / (or as my son’s friends used to call it when they were kids, “Fried Worms”) 1/2 package of udon or soba noodles (whole wheat or white) / 3 T tamari or soy sauce / 2 T brown or white rice vinegar / 1 T light or dark sesame oil / Red pepper flakes to taste / Sesame seeds, green onions for garnish (I used mint in the photo, because that is all I had in the house…turned out pretty tasty!!!) Boil the noodles until al dente, and then rinse under cold water. Add tamari, rice vinegar, sesame oil and red pepper flakes to the empty pot, and heat to a boil. Drain the noodles and add to the pot. Stir until liquid has evaporated and coated the noodles. Serve with sesame seeds and green onions (or mint).

  • Loved the colour of the placemats so I photographed them in several different ways and created this montage. Not a subject most groups of 50 people would think of. / The edge was done in paint using a section of the photo. / Photographed with my Sony Cybershot 4.1 and post processed in Paint. Yellow, mellow / Not sallow / buttercuppy yellow / Brightens me up when I am low.

  • January 26 is Chinese New Year. In past years, I have cooked supper for my family on Mardi Gras but in the last couple of years we have gathered for Chinese New Year. Because of conflicting schedules this is set to happen on February 7th but I am already planning the meal. These placemats and chopsticks were a gift from one of the girls on my staff last year, having gone home to China for five weeks to visit her family. Anyone may make this up as a crochet project if you pass the instructions on for free, and to me! Wouldn’t it make great placemats?
