Carrousel at Place de la Mairie in Rennes, France A carousel (or carrousel) is an amusement ride consisting of a rotating platform with seats for passengers. ❏ About the Location : At Place de la Mairie in Rennes where the Opera House and Hotel de Ville are situated. ❏ Fun Facts : The earliest carousel is known from a Byzantine Empire bas-relief dating to around 500 A.D., which depicts riders in baskets suspended from a central pole. The word carousel originates from the Italian garosello and Spanish carosella (“little war”), used by crusaders to describe a combat preparation exercise and game played by Turkish and Arabian horsemen in the 1100s. On occasions during my travels I have had the feeling of being ” Beyond the Hills” – away in a far off place where no one from home could see me or what I was seeing. I had the intense feeling of being very priveliged to be in a place and time and having the opportunity of recording the images before me. Beyond the Hills is a collection of images that has touched me in such a way. I hope you can share some of the feeling. Martin..........

June, in Newfoundland. Although most of the large ice bergs are gone, quite a number bergy bits and growlers still float around. Thanks to my friend on the Rock (OldBirch) for the following explanation: Definition on our gov web site. “Each year, hundreds of icebergs break free from the Arctic and drift in off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. Icebergs range from over 10 million-ton giants to small “bergy bits” and even “growlers,” which are grand-piano-size pieces.” Wild Cove, NL. / Olympus E-510; 40-150 lens
