You told me that you loved me / but I saw you running beside the sea / with her / hand in hand / toes in the sand / making memories out of nothing at all / It’s all I ever wanted Would you dip yourself in my heart? So I curled my salted hair / around my lingering fingers / and I cut myself on the rusted ring / from the sea / you gave me / nothing that mattered / more than this / that / everything / you gave me nothing / that I need. © ryan

There was a tub of hair gel / a magic carpet / a toothbrush / a fair amount of toddler attitude / and a whole world out there to explore. © ryan
She has those guitars in her eyes / again / damn things / strings / and sounds about now and then / when are you going to leave?
A character study for an album cover and inspired by musician PJ Harvey. This sketch carries symbolic elements, / the string and knot on the finger – memory and remembering, / ‘bloody hole in chest where heart ought to be’ – represents outpouring of emotion, this contrasts the serene expression on the girl’s face. Despite the emotional elements in this sketch, I also find it empowering, as the wounds of life only make us stronger. Crystal Thomas

her mascara streams down her face, like leaking octopus ink and I wonder what it tastes like
A day or so ago I made a tee shirt based on a short story for a challenge in the flash fiction group and it is called define weird well this attempt at illustrating a bit of writing has inspired another writer to ask me to do one for them…. and here it is….....batter for the soul is the name of the very very short story by PJ Ryan that this tee shirt illustrates. a short and yummy meditation on the lure of cake. mmmmm yummy cake.
Polaroid transfer scanned plus type. / A Very Big Thank You to my friend PJ Ryan for allowing me to use one of her poems to go with this Polaroid transfer. My Wonders You look up at me with a toothpaste grin / and I’m wondering / how I ever created something / as perfect as you / with big brown bear eyes / that twinkle / like lights in a winter window. Would it matter if I wanted to hold you for an hour / and not let go / would that be too much? / You run past me / dancing and swirly curls / and i wonder / why I ever deserved / to have someone as gorgeous as you / in my world I wonder / if I ever met you / my heart would still never forget you / because you’re a yearning in my soul. So I hold your hands / and chase you / around the clothesline / along the pavement / across the memories we’ve made / whilst my heart opens up a little bit more / and holds you in it’s smile. a bitter taste that has crawled out of the garden and into her mouth
I saw her in the sky; shaped like a cloud, she was laying on her back, without underpants, her legs spread wide open.
