This was a knitting mill, I think. It has now been razed to make way for a Bunnings! Apparently you cannot have too many Bunnings?!

A firm favourite of mine, i always like taking pics of pipework and valves when in derelict places, and these were no exception. Found these hiding behind a huge boiler in the derelict mental asylum over the weekend.

inspired by the lone piper … and his song for the fallen soldiers – the lament: ‘flowers of the forest’ ... such a beautiful tune along with ‘highland cathedral’ ... if you don’t know these tunes then source them and listen carefully. Another song to source and listen to is ‘green fields of france’ by the fureys … magical song !!! great – ‘friend forever’ or ‘remembrance’ card

/ The latest additon to the Everyday Things Collection is “Still Life with Picture Wire” ....this series is very personal to me in that they represent objects and tools, that are part of my life…I remember being told long ago by an art expert, that it is best to paint what you know, and I feel that the things I use, not only contribute to the quality of my life but have an intrisic beauty of their own... Mighty Leaf teabags are so pretty even when used…all that stitching and silky mesh / Astonishingly, I just found out a couple of days ago from Mingtees, about a world famous artist who has painted the very same everyday things that I do…’How wonderful” I thought…most of those pieces were done some time ago and I am very curious to see how he did them…his newest works on exhibit at the Pace Gallery now include the real tools actually hanging from the canvas…it proves to me that we certainly don’t work in a vacuum…there are probably many other artists around the world who feel the same way as I do and paint the same things... Watercolour on Saunders Waterford Hot Pressed Paper / Enigma…A Stii Life / Still Life with an Awl / The Legacy / Still Life with Old Dandelion Stencil and Terracotta Pots / Still Life with Wellingtons / The Sap Bucket
A young Pwo Karen girl in Northern Thailand smokes her tobacco pie while looking after her younger sister. In the 1980s it was common for the children of some hilltribes to smoke rough homegrown tobacco and chew betel. As schools were established the practice has died out. This candid shot was taken in the early 1980s with a nikon FM2, 135mm lense and kodachrome slide film.
This self portrait is painted using acrylic on canvas with gel pens. I have included gelpens, not only to give a greater aesthetic appeal but also to include a feminine influence which disrupts the traditionally masculine orientated world of painting. This piece shows a traditionally masculine object (the pipe) and combines it with my hand, which looks like a lady’s hand with the nail varnish. The overall impression of the piece is meant to be highly androgynous.
Shot at my favorite set of rocks on the beach in the North bay at Kaikoura, New Zealand, lovely soft blue tones as the light dies. This is one of about 20 frames, the others have fuller and more typical wave patterns. I like this one because i got it by accidence, as soon as I saw it i thought of a pipe or mouth blowing smoke. Shot on a Nikon D700 with 17-35mm Nikkor Lens, ND 8 soft Grad, tripod with weighted bags.
this is a work inspired by watching a bunch of tulips rising high under the sun light brings the feeling of hope…....
