The romance of the West, Southwest and the Horse is a subject I always return to. I live both in Colorado and in Nevada, so I have an endless supply of personal photography that I draw from for these drawings. I haven’t learned this guy’s name yet because there are three horses at Ten Oaks from the same “family.” The barn owner owns one of them and a boarder owns the other two. All are spotted and look so much alike but I’m sure I’ll eventually learn to tell them apart. This one especially since he’s a bit of ham and camera hog:-) /

Horses are very protective of one another, especially when their is impending danger or bad weather. (General rule is Fight or Flight, 99% of the time its flight for horses) These spanish arabs here give the feel of siblings, both young, inexperienced, learning the way of life in the wild. Went for a drive yesterday, found this herd of horses, thought they would spook and take off, they didn’t! They chased our car for about a mile….kicking and bucking! It was amazing…then they turned and chased another car!! / Captured with my Kodak Easyshare Z612

I let Jet out to pasture on this particular morning to get a few photos. I was running late for church and didn’t bother to put him back in his pen. Glad I didn’t. A storm blew up that afternoon and lightning struck a tree in his pen. There’s no doubt in my mind that I’d no longer have him if he had been there.
