Pure Watercolour on Arches 140lb…. I try to paint all my flowers from life, No pre drawing, just wetting the paper, dropping in some pale washes of pigment and see where it takes me.. It allows so much more freedom…..

Saltspring Island, just off Vancouver Island, is a peaceful spot to go to simply enjoy the beauty of the water, the sea birds, and the fir trees. And the Northwest’s plants are in their glory there! / / So I was at a sushi restaurant with my friend, and she said ‘ostrich tentacle’ rather than octopus tentacle. A curious beast that just had to be painted. Ostriches are cool – sort of snooty and silly looking at the same time. / I liked painting his funny feets. Watercolour, chalk pastel, ink, conte on canvas, 30cm x 23cm. / / / /

This was my first attempt at liquid watercolor and actually one of my favorites. I don’t know if it is because it was my first or what, but I love the pastels and shapes. I like working with geometric shapes. It now hangs in my mom’s bedroom because she loved it and it matches perfectly with her color scheme. My mom is one of my biggest fans.
A Poem for this Piece by same Name / Practice Fish I want to be your slave / I want to be the queen you must drone on about / I want to be the corpuscles and the blood work / That says you will be dead without my infusion Typical physic paradigms / And lofty schemes / All to hold on / To / The someone that becomes / Casper the friendly ghost / Flying in to tell me that if I just follow / My dreams / He will too / From a café in Paris / He will read all about me! / His heart will soar. / To the ethers of forever / Whence we came, / He and I / By the by I am in the Andes. / Eating coca leaves and the bruja says / There is something a brewing / A storm is coming / A wind funnel is changing and I must go! / Run she says run run to your destiny / It waits on a wailing wall in darkness / Bring them light she says / That’s all that matters. / The light is all that will satisfy you! / But she is wrong / I think / I wanted to just be in bed with you / Hearty cup of tea and practice fish / Listening to the song of / Letting me go. / Oh shit / Even here you and the fish practice / The backstroke / To a place where you watch me / Find the light that old bruja said I should / Find / The only thing that will make me truly happy / She said, / But I don’t think so / I think / Smoking one last cigarette / After 11:00pm / With you would have been better. / But I don’t know that either, / Cause I can’t find that light. The other casualties of war—those left behind, are seldom considered after the folded flag is given in memory of their loved one’s sacrifice. This piece pays homage to those left behind, and explores “Feeling the Void”. It features the riderless horse, which, although reserved for colonels, or above, in the Army or Marine Corps, here, symbolizes the soul of the lost soldier. The horse here is a Friesian horse, on which a star blaze has been added as a tribute to “Black Jack”, a long serving riderless horse. The young woman represents a daughter, nearly grown, for all intents and purposes, but always and forever “Daddy’s girl”. Take a moment with me and remember the wives, husbands, children, brothers, and sisters of the lost soldiers who paid their respective country with their life and, also, the lives of those they left behind. Digital work, in watercolor style, June 2009 Suggestions: Sympathy card for someone who has lost a family member in the service. Poster for a child who has lost a parent in the service. Pure Watercolour on Arches 140lb This was a painting done on my recent trip to France. I picked a couple of white roses picked from the garden of the Gite where we stayed. Put them in a glass. Starting from the centre of one rose I worked outwards developing each petal as I went, adding foliage along the way. By turning the roses I could get different views. I prefer to work this way with flowers rather than draw them first, they have a different kind of freedom with a more natural look. They were actually white roses, but I decided to add colour to them, after all, white isn’t always white.
