OK… Now I do believe in Karma! I sat in traffic on Friday night with storms around me and witnessed a truly gorgeous dramatic sunset. Frustrated that I was in traffic rather than the beach I thought it wasn’t fair to witness a stunning sunset without an opportunity to photograph it. Saturday morning I popped out to Pittwater around 4:30am and found there were some dramatic storm clouds around, but the colour was pretty flat…. Then all of a sudden just as the sun was starting to peek over the horizon, the light went really weird…. it was like an orange/pink colour and had a very unusual quality about it. The sky was half storm cloud and half clear. So I missed a great sunset, but I was rewarded with a gorgeous sunrise instead.

This was just a lucky catch. My wife got some tulips for her birthday and I took one out as the sun was setting to try a get a nice shot. I put the vase down & as soon as I turned my back I heard the hummer behind me, I turned back around and had time to get off one shot before she realized she wasn’t interested in tulips. / Captured in Cave Creek, Arizona, with a Canon 20D. This was the last shot as I was packing up, while I was chatting to a fellow medium-format photographer. It’s got everything: lovely subtle pink & blue sky colours, reflection in still water… well worth getting up early for. Taken on the Hasselblad using Fuji Provia film, at Friar’s Crag on the end of Derwentwater, Keswick, in the Lake District .

I have always loved Sea urchins and have always collected them from when i was a child right up into adulthood. They would be the first thing I would look for when I got out of my car and my feet hit the sand on the beach. Suprisingly there arent that many to be found anymore on the beach where I have always gone to find them. sony ax 300 SLR 70 – 200ml lense.

Bec and I got up.. actually we just stayed up all night and then drove to Caloundra to get some shots of the SS DIcky, I’ve been waiting for a good dawn with the right tides for the shots I wanted.. I’m really happy with them :) All comments appreciated - paul http://www.paulpichugin.com

MUCH BETTER VIEWED LARGER / 190 Comments,125 Favourites, 2956 Views / Sydney is great for sunrises, it quite often receives spectacular sunrises as it greets the sunrises that appear from the east. This shot shows the city skyline as seen from North Sydney CBD on the northern shore of Sydney Harbour, in the foreground is Lavender Bay. Technique: HDR , 5 Bracketted images processed with Photomatix Pro with avery slight adjustment (sharpening & contrast) in Capture NX. Equipment: Nikon D300 , Nikon 18-200mm lens No filters or colour adjustment 1) RED SKY AT NIGHT… means that as the sun sets in the west, if it has a red hue or color to it, then the moisture was further west of their location. Thus SAILORS DELIGHT. A beautiful sunset. 2) RED SKY IN MORN…means that as the sunlight from the rising sun passes through moisture, it too will be red. This means that with the rotation of the earth, this will bring this moisture (and possible storm) right on top of them and it is only a few hours away. SO SAILORS TAKE WARN.” / I hope this bit of weather science helps.

This little gem can be found just around the corner from Loch Ard Gorge near Port Campbell off Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, Australia. I came here the afternoon before and there were snap happy tourists everywhere but decided to come back the next morning and there wasn’t a soul in sight, just the crashing ocean to keep me company… Unfortunately as of early June 2009 this archway has collapsed leaving two apostles next to eachother.
