  • This tulip couple decided they were a cut above the rest. Photograph was taken on our recent trip to Canberra, Australia for Floriade 2007. The buildings you can see in the background are a row of beach huts in a display for the Australiana theme of Floriade 2007. They made for a colourful backdrop. Not that the tulips needed any more colour to show off their beauty.

  • This is not one of the flowers from my show but will be in my book. You again back this morning looking still the same. / I wonder where my youth has gone and left me with this man. / You stumble in as if we’re friends, but your no friend of mine. / Just one more sad reminder of what is left behind. / I look at you so worn and torn. / From miles and miles of stress. / And here you are again my unwanted friend to face me once again. / You come this morning bringing gifts a smile to comfort me. / But underneath all that show your love for me is hate / I know your hate for me is strong you show it in each new line. / For on your face is what I am a man who’s time has gone. / I struggle to make contact, with your hateful eyes, that stare at me this morn. / Looking deep into my face reminding me each day, of the goals you set for me, when we were so young. / I see you settle on my eyes so tired from all the pain. / Of trudging through this world each day with out one moments rest! / I see the look that your showing me of hate and such contempt. / I know I’ve failed you a thousand times but this is what I am! / I reach inside to find a man who’s goal is set to stone. / But I am just a mortal man who’s fallen many times. / But because of this you look on me with such disgust it shames me to my core! / I see that I have failed to be the man… that I had hoped my life to be. / And you my hated inner self are there each day to curse me with your smile. / Your time and mine are soon to end I’ll settle for that prize. / For I know soon that you will no longer greet me in the morn. / With damning eyes that cut to my bone, reminding me that I am weak. / I’ll take that prize to my grave! / And cheer! / No more of you! / My mortal soul is lost for good…... along with you its hated twin.

  • in S/C had to pop down to my parents to keep the fire going as they were out for the day and what did I spy sitting on the window ledge – a lovely Orchid which I adore and manage to kill not on purpose you understand, so took advantage of the situation (which was torrential rain outside and waiting for the fire to spark again) and using the window as my backdrop I took a few shots, it was horribly grey obviously outside which made light but not too bright! • Some more of these wonderful velvety roses, greatest roses ever I swear. I adjusted the white balances when I shot this to give it a more bluish tone. Taken indoors with flash and with a sigma 105 mm macro lens. Enjoy!

  • Isopogon have around 30 species of evergreen shrubs in Australia, all with light green foliage, which although looking soft and ferny is hard and prickly. Has globular heads of fragrant white, cream or pink flowers in Spring and Summer. The flowers are followed by woody fruiting heads resembling small pine cones or drumsticks, hence their common name. Member of the large group Protaceae. This one is believed to the Isopogon dubius – Rose Coneflower, which is a 1.5m tall Western Australian shrub with grey-green leaves and purple-pink flowerheads around 20mm wide open. / Info Random House – Australian Native Plants Taken in bushland in Yarloop, between Mandurah and Harvey south of Perth in Western Australia
