Selective coloring. Taken next to the Montreal River in Montreal, WI.
I uploaded this for for Helen Bascom, as I was totally amazed to see she has a piece in her portfolio that is very similar. I took this shot on Nov. 11.2007, Remembrance day at Lions Park in Kelowna, and at that time had not seen the photo Helen has in her portfolio so you can imagine my surprise when I came across it today while surfing the bubble. What a coincedence!
A Thanksgiving table, reminds me of home.
At the foot of Bear River Falls, I was setting up the gear after taking it all out of my backpack so take “slow shutter” water shots when I dropped something, probably a lens cap. When I bent over to retrieve it, I saw a speck of white that reminded me of another photoshoot a while back. Down on my knees in the wet loam I saw a pinecone no more than 1/2 long with the tiniest mushroom imaginable on it! I immediately went into macro mode and forgot all about the roaring falls behind me. It was a nightmare getting this shot because of the dim lighting and the lack of a flash in the macro mode on my Olympus. But once it was captured and I saw it at home, I was enthralled with the incredibly tiny beauty of God’s Works. If the lens cap had landed on this, it would have crushed it and covered it forever.
When approached, Shinglebacks open their mouths and act big and tough! Although dont be fooled, when do they bite, they latch on very hard! This pair was found wandering the bluebush near Lake Mungo in western NSW. Steve is the Principal Ecologist at EnviroKey providing specialist ecological services across Australia.

An as is shot of our favorite “Standing Peaople” or Pine Trees near our cabin ;) A tree that cannot be confused with any others – I must concede / Its evergreen branches conceive cones, while some conceal seeds / The pinon, with a taste like confection, which connoisseur birds feed / I must confess, the one most condusive for my eyes, is the blue spruce breed These trees do console my winter spirit with their life so consistent / Continuous shelter for the falcons and birds, whose travels are distant / Unconditionally they give of their flesh, which contain constructing assistant / In addition to needs for economic growth, we’re convinced and persistent An icon Sequoia, the tallest conifer of all, towers as high as days in the year / The only species able to conquer death, by conjuring life, when its base is cut clear / Conservation efforts aplenty, on the Pacific coast despite a consumerism frontier / I’ve had many conversations of concern against so many black marketers My conscience speaks loudly to those driven by greed / Who try to convince me – when they’re condensed, they are much like weeds / I’m interconnected to those who contribute to my medicinal needs / By no means conventional, though content with success and Godspeed The traditions of Christmas, I will not conform to, by cutting one down / A concept of constraint, receiving no congratulations, but frowns / When we light our live one out under the constellations – the only in town / It’s our own beacon to condole all conifers slain for a holiday crown. tkrosevear 2007 An exercise in using as many words containing “con”, this poem contains 42, inspired by TREES.
