A busy Christmas Reindeer, in festive holiday garb, stops briefly in the winter landscape as if to say “Happy Holidays” to everyone. Rendered in realistic pen-and-ink with splashes of color. ...if you’ve ever read Shel Silverstein’s book “The Giving Tree” then you’ll understand how I felt…and still feel. / These lovely old 100’ pines were marked for months and finally cut down last week. Even though I knew it was coming, I still wasn’t ready to see them go…saddened to see them gone…cut down at last. / On this rainy gloomy day I first discovered this…I went to look at their remaining stumps and discovered they were still giving their gifts, as I took in their inner beauty ~ their colored rings and sunset centers…spin art of a kind (the other titled that way)...isn’t nature amazing?

a male cardinal, brilliant in red, has hgis big bright eyes on the lookout for predators. Cardinals love to sit in the pine tree to check the sunflower seed feeder for safety before coming in to feed. This affords an excellent opportunity for some candid, closeup shots. I love the way the pine needles frame the cardinal, and radiate out from him.

The discovery in 1994 of the Wollemi Pine (Wollemia nobilis), one of the world’s oldest and rarest plants, was described at the time as “the equivalent of finding a small dinosaur still alive on earth.” Now safely propagated and its future assured (this one lives in a pot in a Sydney backyard), the location of that original find, in a remote area of a national park, is still a closely guarded secret.

I took this photo last year in Upstate NY. My calico cat, Little Bear had never seen snow before and these were her tracks. After watching her walk through the snow and towards the sunlight I felt that she was like me wanting that warm Florida sun. Living in Florida for the first 9+ years of her life snow was NOT something she was a fan of… and NEITHER AM I…lol…:) I am moving back home to Florida next month! YIPPEE!! Needless to say… I most likely will not be taking any more snow photos for a VERY VERY VERY VERY long time! This is Little Bear.. now 10 1/2 years old.
