Really an architectural shot of Atoche Train Station in Madrid but there was this guy sort of nicely positioned, with of all things a halo. Who knows maybe he was an angel or whatever.

The gypsy moth, Lymantria dispar, is one of North America’s most devastating forest pests. The species originally evolved in Europe and Asia and has existed there for thousands of years. In either 1868 or 1869, the gypsy moth was accidentally introduced near Boston, MA by E. Leopold Trouvelot. About 10 years after this introduction, the first outbreaks began in Trouvelot’s neighborhood and in 1890 the State and Federal Government began their attempts to eradicate the gypsy moth. These attempts ultimately failed and since that time, the range of gypsy moth has continued to spread. Every year, isolated populations are discovered beyond the contiguous range of the gypsy moth but these populations are eradicated or they disappear without intervention. It is inevitable that gypsy moth will continue to expand its range in the future.

As is the case with many of my shots there is a considerable time gap between finding a good location for an image and shooting it. I found this spot in March 2007 on an overcast day completely unsuitable for photography. I finally returned in November 2007 to capture the shot I had envisaged all those months before. On this occassion the light surpassed my expectations with the results being worth the wait. Taken on Pillar Point at Wilsons Promontory. The Nine Pillars- an addition to Arawn’s Realm. The gates of Annwn open to few who find them…unto the glorious corridors of this place. This piece was actually inspired by a self-hypnosis programme called The Nine Pillars. My gran, after a heart attack, began to suffer depression and panic attacks. For months she remained in the same state, until she discovered The Nine Pillars. Literally within 2 or 3 weeks my old gran was back :-) I’d missed her!!

This painting is watercolour on paper. This is number nine in the series on Venice. I was struck by the contrast between the deep shadow of the arched colonnade and the square outside. And just a peek of the Basilica. As it was early morning, only a few people were about and lovely long shadows. I used just a few of the very many pigeons to lead the eye away, across the square. Thank you all again so much for the numerous faves and watches. I really do appreciate these. See more of Freda’s works: / Boats / City / Fractals / Stillife / Figures / Landscape Freda’s website
Taken with my new macro lens and Nikon D50; I have been on African safaris and hiked through the swamps of Borneo, but this lens is opening up my eyes to a whole new world right in my own back garden, right at my feet. It’s not easy, trying to focus on small objects with a heavy lens, trying not to breathe, but it’s worth it!

Norway, the most beautiful country in the world – or so I personally think. Endlessly inspiring, every view mesmerising, I love it. I have tried to emphasise the ever-present tranquility by focusing on this pile of stones, quite a common site in western norway incidentaly. / I hope you like it!
This view is one I have dreamed about for years after seeing it in an article I found on-line. The picture is taken off the rarely visited Mt Norgate (419m) overlooking Oberon Bay, then Norman, Pillar, Leonard and Tongue Points before getting to Shellback Island at Wilsons Promontory. When down amongst these points the fact that they line up is impossible to percieve how they do line up when up here is a true wonder to behold. The difficulty in getting to this spot was staggeringly hard involving two days of hard bushbashing and dangerous sea level traverses to cover less than 10km. Part of the journey can be seen on this You Tube clip . Incidentally this clip was of one of the easier traverses on which no-one actually got (very)wet (was so preoccupied with me and my companions doing the other ones safely I forgot to get my camera out, doh). I shot this last week down in Florida with the very lovely Wendy Hanks as model… Sometimes you work with a model who is so perfect that nearly every picture is a “keeper” – Wendy was such a model and I hope that (despite our geographical distance) her and I work together again soon…
Entrance to a refurbished building in Athens … paid for an American philanthropist … now a museum. Wish I could remember the name …. adjacent to the parthenon.
If there was a choice between using a regular escalator or climbing ten flights of those stairs, I would choose the stairs without any hesitation! It has to be a happy climb! The Palais des Congrès in Montreal, Quebec, is a genuine feast for the eyes. It’s a convention center with a design relying mostly on its fabulous coloured windows. The effect is absolutely delightful, casting gorgeous colours both inside and outside the building, like a giant kaleidoscope. Focal length 55mm / ISO-200 / Aperture f/9 / Shutter 1/250 sec. I took this capture this summer when I was in Astoria. I just love the brilliance of the algae and moss along the shoreline. The rocks and piers are just covered in it. It was just spectacular!
