This is one of my first oil paintings titled Two Face. More or less a tribute to Picasso. Let me know what you think of it…:)
Can you work out which part of this image is not a part of the original artwork that is a landmark of Melbourne’s Southbank precinct? If you said the red segment up the top, go straight to the top of the class. The red is actually fabric, part of the huge umbrella that covers the tables at BearBrass, a riverside cafe. I shot this early yesterday morning, as I was strolling through Southbank. These hand-painted ceramic tiles are part of a towering figure created by Melbourne multi-media artist Deborah Halpern whose work is inspired by Pablo Picasso. This sculpture, Ophelia, was named the official face of Melbourne by Tourism Victoria in 1996. I’ve shot various aspects of it before, but this is the first time I’ve actually included an extraneous element that is not part of Deborah Halpern’s work. I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my work in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F6.7, 1/45 sec, ISO 800, focal length 45mm. Featured in STATUES AND SUCH, October 2009. 119-0449
