When the world is driven by passion… / A derelict piano seen on a verandah. Darlington – inner west Sydney Image copyright © 2007, Robert Knapman. Copying and displaying or redistribution of this image without permission from the artist is strictly prohibited.
I found this old piano in an abandoned church. It’s a haunting echo of music played, songs sung, and dances danced.
This is a stupid phrase, / I know I use it all the time to confuse and annoy children. / It was originally a throw away comment off a George Carlin record from the early 70’s referring to phrases you don’t hear much. / This got me thinking along the lines of Lucan’s “Television, The Drug Of The Nation” Challenge. / Back before Reality TV became so popular back in the dark and damp 1970’s there were television shows that were so truly pathetic and painful that they make today’s television delightful. / These shows, predominantly from the US were called Situation Comedies or SitCom’s. / These awful monstrosities often had an annoying character that had a catch phrase. The more popular the show became, the more that show depended on the Character’s catch phrase to hold the show together or even finish the episode off. / Examples include: / Welcome Back Kotter: “ Wha?”, / “Mister Kot-tieyer” “Ooh Ooh!” (Wave hand like a school child) / / Happy Days “Heyyyy!” / “Coooool!” Different Strokes “What choo talking about Willis?” The Good Times “Dyn-O-Mite” The Poms were just as guilty with / Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em. “ Oh Betty” / or / On the Buses “I’ll get you Butler” These catch phrases would be repeated all over the school yard and work place by unoriginal wags looking for a cheap laugh. / So I made this Tee Shirt in the hope if this kind of television has a resurgence- and mark my words it will again one day. I’m at least on the front foot for some quick sales. / . / . / Or maybe I’m just going surreal / The artwork is a rework of clipart that came with my version of Windows XP
A black version because people who know about these things suggested it. / Of course they were right. / I put an emphasis on the piano. “It’s THAT one” he wants. / A big thank you to the deformed burnt & crispy thing that has become the lucansjem / (to be continued) :)
This is a shot of my mums hands rehearsing for a gig – she (and my dad – who’s a violinist / Scottish fiddler) still play and perform.his image 50% of money raised from the sale of this image will be donated to Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders). Ink on paper illustration from a book I have written and illustrated. This character is largely inspired by Edgar Allan Poe and an array of depressive songwriters I have encountered.
An old piano that has obviously been well used and hopefully well played. :)

HDR image of a Steinway Piano at a friends’ home. She’s quite an accomplished artist herself, she painted the images behind the piano in Tuscany Italy. I’m looking for a good title for this image, this piano hasn’t been played in years. This is a re-post of my Silent Night image, this one without the black border.
