My other daughter for a change – this is Sarah – AKA InTheMaking For this shot – the title came first [one night in a dream]. So, it was scruffy jeans and trainers, and old tiles on the bottom half. For this I pulled back the carpet to expose the bare tiles underneath and placed some old plasterboard against the wall under the window. We made some tears in a pair of Sarah’s jeans and rubbed some dirt into her trainers. The top half needed to be glitz [items of costume jewellery and my wedding ring], jewels and a red carpet – the wine, well that is just cold tea . I used normal household lighting and just pointed the lampshade in her direction with a soft pearly bulb at 40W. I wanted mono [for rags] and colour [for riches] in the shot, which I achieved in photoshop post production, but not just straight forward selective colouring – it had to graduate in intensity from left to right to get it correct with the perspective I used for the shot. Hope you like it – Sarah will be watching your reponses with a keen eye no doubt.

“Been a long time since I rock and rolled. . .” They were so androgynous in that era anyway, it was a cinch. My apologies to everyone who has written me. I will get back to you. I finally got a diagnosis, and I’ve been away trying to get better.

I couldn’t decide which version of my work I like better so I posted both. For this image, I got inspired by my grandfather’s old photographs. At his time, there were no colour photography so he would sometimes tint his images to give them a bit of a colour. So I have tried a similar effect using a digital software.
Thanks to the lovely Lori Dennis for the wonderful Stock. / / “When all was over at the cemetery Charles returned to the house. There was no one downstairs. He went up into the bedroom and saw her dress hanging up at the foot of the bed. Then, leaning against the secretaire, he remained there till it was dark, lost in sorrowful meditation. After all, she had loved him.” / - Gustave Flaubert, Madame Bovary, Ch. 2

I recently treated myself to a set of Ashleys Photoshop Actions & I have to say that it’s the best money I’ve spent in a long time! / True, these Actions are all things I frequently try to do myself when doing a portrait, but using them has halved my workflow. / Perhaps I should learn to do my own actions…. / I’ve had a lot of fun playing with them this afternoon…... Like a star with no light remaining, void of all purpose and all alone in this world, she sits. Alone, the wierd and strange of the unfamiliar environment surround her. It envelopes her equally unfamiliar body which now feels the cold, damp air crawl over her, as if under her new skin. She lifts her head to see past it, but fog of evil regret, of passed mistakes, obscure her view. Darkness keeps her comany now, something she has never witnessed before, although, she has heard many people speak of it, of their fears about it. Fear, a barrier that she will have to learn to overcome, or to live with, like the mere mortals she has tried to protect from it – forever til this point. Cast out, she beckons death! Cast down, like torrents from Heaven, all power, removed from her very soul. Fallen! Its a sad day when Angels fall.
