my sister at her wedding (23.6.07)… / To achieve the soft focus on this photo I add a guassian blur to one of the channels (can’t remember which one), changed to sepia and then added a ‘soft light’ blending layer also a little dodging and burning… v. simple!

June 26th How excited I am! Tomorrow is my birthday, and my sisters have told me that Papa will be arriving first thing, and that he has a very special treat in store for me. Naturally since learning of this, I have been at pains to discover what awaits me. Yet to my utter dismay, when I try to interrogate my sisters , they will only say that they are sworn to secrecy, then glance at one another and burst into infuriating giggles. I feel that if I am to succeed in my endeavour to extract the necessary information before morning, I must first get to each of them separately, then use all the cunning and ingenuity inherited from my beloved father. What springs immediately to mind, is to adopt the guile of one of Nature’s predators and pursue the weaker of the pack. Knowing as I do of Audrey’s great fondness for fruit bonbons, I shall arm myself with said items, and make my way to her bedchamber this very evening. Let us see how long her lips remain sealed when such delightful confection is offered in exchange for her secrets!

This image was shot using 35 mm colour transparency film then chemically cross processed (e6 to c41), doing this can give you lovely green hues. The original analogue photograph was then scanned and only the cubed effect was achieved using photoshop. Some cubes were also slightly desaturated with photoshop too.

This pic I could not resist taking because the light was just right. The Eye in the background is another pic of myself that I photo shopped in. I thought that the closed eyes with the open eye in the background gave it a nice effect as well as using B&W. Directly below is the image before I photoshopped the eye in the bkgrnd.

Friday August 3rd It happened again tonight. The old fool had left the door unlocked; and there, above the cages, some apparently empty and some housing pink-eyed rodents; stood the vessel containing the precious green liquid and marked with the words: “NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION” once more, at my disposal. Thanks to yesterday’s acquisition of a rather splendid pocketwatch, I have been able to establish that administration of about 2floz of the serum is sufficient to remain effective for approximately two hours. I have thus resolved that, weather permitting, tomorrow’s edification will begin with the short trip into town whereupon I will partake in what will no doubt be another fruitful bout of “shopping”, after which with any luck, there will be ample time for a spot of inexpensive dining followed by a close inspection of the ample figures belonging to those delightful ladies up there at Pedlar’s Lane bathhouse, whom I understand,usually prefer to keep themselves hidden away from prying eyes. Dash it… Awfully sorry ladies!

New title ideas anybody? Canon 450D / F-stop: 4.5 (-0.3 exposure bias) / Exposure time: 1/25 sec. / ISO-speed: 200 / Focal length: 30mm Cross-processed on photoshop CS3 and I added some noise. Oh yeah, nooise. Basically, I was like, hitting walls all over the place – metaphorically and physically – so my dear Andy set me a challenge to take a self-portrait of myself using one prop (I kinda pushed that a bit..) that reflected how I felt. / I think I like it. / Can I point out that the focus on my face in the negative was deliberate and not a fluke? Quite pleased about that. / A friend thinks this is just TOO out of focus, but I originally thought that just reflected how out of focus I felt. Help me out here – what do you think? My other daughter for a change – this is Sarah – AKA InTheMaking For this shot – the title came first [one night in a dream]. So, it was scruffy jeans and trainers, and old tiles on the bottom half. For this I pulled back the carpet to expose the bare tiles underneath and placed some old plasterboard against the wall under the window. We made some tears in a pair of Sarah’s jeans and rubbed some dirt into her trainers. The top half needed to be glitz [items of costume jewellery and my wedding ring], jewels and a red carpet – the wine, well that is just cold tea . I used normal household lighting and just pointed the lampshade in her direction with a soft pearly bulb at 40W. I wanted mono [for rags] and colour [for riches] in the shot, which I achieved in photoshop post production, but not just straight forward selective colouring – it had to graduate in intensity from left to right to get it correct with the perspective I used for the shot. Hope you like it – Sarah will be watching your reponses with a keen eye no doubt.

I couldn’t decide which version of my work I like better so I posted both. For this image, I got inspired by my grandfather’s old photographs. At his time, there were no colour photography so he would sometimes tint his images to give them a bit of a colour. So I have tried a similar effect using a digital software.
