This painting is an allegory of the Allegory of Painting by Jan Vermeer. Vermeer is one of my favorite Flemish artists. He died in his 40s and left a small body of beautiful paintings. Someday I would love to see one of his originals. trompe l’oeil Original ptg: 16” x 24” / acrylic on canvas panel private collection
When my children were young we used to visit Pigeon Forge, Tennessee on our way to the Great Smoky Mountains. Our last trip through I decided I would do some paintings of the less picturesque aspect of our trip. . . painting images of the tourist trap nestled at the base of those beautiful mountains. Of course the kids love the painting because it sparks deep fond memories of our family trips together. After nearly two years of on and off painting on Beach House, it’s ready to debut.
