Digital photography Burn For You #2
Title thanks to my husband… I was stumped and when I asked my husband for a suggestion for the title he said the daisies were natures beauty and shone amongst a gloomy winters day, which to him is the essence of winter. © Simone Byrne Photography, 2009. All Rights Reserved. 3rd April, 2009 Point Richards jetty on the Bellarine Peninsula. I am really surprised that this image actually worked due to the extreme wind gusts that blew up just on sunset. I had to shield the tripod with my body to take this to make sure my camera wasn’t blown over. I like this image for its contrast of the impending storm above the jetty and the purity of the water below, kind of reminds me of life. I’d sooner stay below, but sometimes you have to stick your head up to see what’s coming! The white water was achieved by stacking my Cokins to give me a 5 stop ND Grad, only photoshopping here is a slight bump in contrast and saturation with curves. Point Richards, Victoria, Australia Camera: Canon EOS 350D Lens: Canon 18-55mm @ focal length 18mm Exposure: 15 sec, f16, ISO 100 Filters: Hoya UV, Cokin 121S/121M ND Grads Processing: Adobe Photoshop CS More Images @ SimoneByrne.com.au Thanks for looking, all comments greatly appreciated, Simone.
Ok so as the story goes… this was right place right time with a camera and imagination…. / I had just taken Dylan (son, featured) to the park for his afternoon play and was carrying around my Canon 20D (getting old now.. poor baby) and 50mm lens.. When we spotted this tiny little heart on the ground.. 1+1=2.. :D (I think?)
this is #3 in the serie. the first is already in my portfolio and because it looks like you liked it, I thought about submitting this one. ^^ / - / copyrighted / / / /
The useful Sunny 16 rule always with you! Version printed in black:
The Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo abelii) is the rarer of the two species of orangutans. Living and endemic to Sumatra island of Indonesia, they are smaller than the Bornean Orangutan. The Sumatran Orangutan grows to about 4.6 feet tall and 200 pounds in males. Females are smaller, averaging 3 feet and 100 pounds. Compared to the Bornean Orangutan, the Sumatran Orangutans possess a lighter and longer pelage, a longer face, a smaller stature, and flanges that are covered in small white hairs. Wild Sumatran Orangutans in the Suaq Balimbing swamp have been observed using tools. An orangutan will break off a tree branch that’s about a foot long, snap off the twigs and fray one end. It then will use the stick to dig in tree holes for termites. They’ll also use the stick to poke a bees nest wall, move it around and catch the honey. In addition, orangutans use tools to eat fruit. When the fruit of the Neesia tree ripens, its hard, ridged husk softens until it falls open. Inside are seeds that the orangutans love, but they are surrounded by fiberglass-like hairs that are painful if eaten. A Neesia-eating orangutan will select a five-inch stick, strip off its bark, and then carefully collect the hairs with it. Once the fruit is safe, the ape will eat the seeds using the stick or its fingers. Although similar swamps can be found in Borneo, wild Bornean Orangutans have not been seen using these types of tools. Image for a challenge using plain white paper. Using long exposure and torchlight to light the area, this is what I came up with. exp – 8 seconds / f3.5 / iso 80 / FL 31mm / eveready torch with piano certificate held in front to diffuse the torchlight, only other props include sticky tape and one sheet of plain white photocopy paper, and lots of patience. At one stage, a rotating multi-coloured disco light was involved, but this was soon abandoned due to the law of physics/light not matching the image in my head :(

© Simone Byrne Photography, 2009. All Rights Reserved. 3rd April, 2009 Sunset at Point Richards jetty on the Bellarine Peninsula. Was very lucky to get this as just on sunset a group of fishermen decided to come back in and I had people wandering all over the jetty. Finally they left, but the wind was blowing something fierce and the seaspray was horrendous, the only way to shoot the sunset was to wedge myself as close to the jetty as possible and shield the camera from the wind. Was the most challenging circumstances for photography I’ve faced, but I’m happy with this one. ND Grads stacked again to give a more dramatic effect.
