WILD & FREE / / Polar Bear mum and cubs resting on an ice floe. / A bit cold on your bum if you ask me!! / / The sea ice is shrinking at an alarming rate, which has a huge impact for the bears as this is their main hunting ground. ©2004 Sara Montour I haven’t uploaded a lot of new photos lately. I’m super busy, but I definitely miss the RedBubble community and am hoping to be more involved. Fridays are a relatively slow day for me, so perhaps that will be my RedBubble day. I took this photo in 2004 when I lived in Ireland. We spent the day by the beach and were very ready to head back home. We finally got all the way back to the car and I saw this little toy and said “hold on! We can’t leave yet! I have an idea!” I ran back to the beach and took this shot and several others.

This small rock pool is found in Cabbage Tree Bay, along the pathway between Manly and Shelly Beach on Sydney’s northern beaches. The sculpture/statue is known as The Oceanids. This image was a 30 second exposure nearly an hour before sunrise with the pool wall and sculpture lit up by a nearby street light. This image has also won a photo of the week at photographer Steve Parish’s Photograph Australia website.

Chefchaouen is a city in northwest Morocco. It is the chief town of the province of the same name. Chefchaouen is situated in the Rif Mountains, just inland from Tangier and Tetouan. The city was founded in 1471, as a small fortress which still exists to this day, by Moorish exiles from Spain to fight the Portuguese invasions of northern Morocco. It was known as one of the main concentrations of Moriscos and Jews who sought refuge in this mountainous city after the Spanish Reconquista in medieval times. In 1920, the Spanish seized Chefchaouen to form part of Spanish Morocco. They returned the city after the independence of Morocco in 1956. The name ‘Chefchaouen’ refers to the shapes of the mountain tops that tower over the town, that look like the two horns (chaoua) of a goat. It literally means “look at the horns”. The blue-rinsed houses and buildings, are a tradition that comes from the town’s former Jewish population.
