My Halloween greeting for this year. I did this image to illustrate an old story. Maybe it’s an urban legend or a rural one but I know that I had people from all over the world tell me that they’d heard of this haunting tale. It seems bridegroom was tragically killed on his wedding day. His young bride, consumed by grief, locked herself away in her bedroom. There she sat, day after day, watching out the window for her beloved to return to her until she died from starvation and self neglect. Some say, that if you pass that house today, you can still see her watching and waiting.
This was taken in Canyon De Chelly in Arizona at night and was lit mostly by a campfire.
The small town next to us had their 4th of July celebration last night(6/29). They had a free concert with Ray Stevens and after the concert they had their fireworks show. Usually, Boaz and Albertville’s fireworks displays are just ok, I was pretty impressed with the showing last night. Boaz definately has a leg up on Albertville this year so far!!!! I decided since I had my tripod with me this time, I would go ahead and set up for the show. I’m glad I did, I captured some pretty cool fireworks. This is a combined image of 6 different shots layered together. I thought it looked more like “wildflowers” than fireworks once I was finished with it. Hope you enjoy and have a safe and happy 4th of July!

I saw that twinkle in your eyes as we kissed away the night. / I caught that little special smile that only eyes can give. / That little twinkle shone so bright it told me loud and clear. / Come closer dear and let me say what only eyes can say. / This special kiss from me to you with out our lips in play. / I give you this its from my soul as deep as words to me. / Without one word off my lips it tells you I love you. / And that special kiss that you grace me with I’ll remember to the end.

Photograph of Passion Flower taken 13 May 2009. Information courtesy of Wikipedia here The passion flowers or passion vines (Passiflora) are a genus of about 500 species of flowering plants, the namesakes of the family Passifloraceae. They are mostly vines, with some being shrubs, and a few species being herbaceous. For information about the fruit of the passiflora plant, see passionfruit. The monotypic genus Hollrungia seems to be inseparable from Passiflora, but further study is needed. Popularly, passionflowers and especially passionfruit are frequently used with sexual or romantic innuendo, giving rise to such uses as a one-time soft drink named Purple Passion. The “Passion” in “passion flower” does not refer to sex and love however, but to the passion of Jesus Christ. In the 15th and 16th centuries, Spanish Christian missionaries adopted the unique physical structures of this plant, particularly the numbers of its various flower parts, as symbols of the last days of Jesus Christ and especially the Crucifixion. The pointed tips of the leaves were taken to represent the Holy Lance. / The tendrils represent the whips used in the Flagellation of Christ. / The ten petals and sepals represent the ten faithful apostles (less St. Peter the denier and Judas Iscariot the betrayer). / The flower’s radial filaments, which can number more than a hundred and vary from flower to flower, represent the Crown of Thorns. / The chalice-shaped ovary with its receptacle represents a hammer or the Holy Grail / The 3 stigmata represent the 3 nails and the 5 anthers below them the 5 wounds (four by the nails and one by the lance). / The blue and white colors of many species’ flowers represent Heaven and Purity. The flower has been given names related to this symbolism throughout Europe since that time. In Spain, it is known as espina de Cristo (“Christ’s Thorn”). Old German names are Christus-Krone (“Christ’s Crown”), Christus-Strauss (“Christ’s Bouquet”, Dorn-Krone (“Crown of Thorns”), Jesus-Leiden (“Jesus’ Passion”), Marter (“Passion” or Muttergottes-Stern (“Mother of God’s Star”. Outside the Christian heartland, the regularly-shaped flowers have reminded people of the face of a clock; in Israel they are known as “clock-flower” (שעונית), and in Japan they are called tokeisō (時計草, “clock plant”). In Hawaiian, they are called lilikoʻi; lī is a string used for tying fabric together, such as a shoelace, and liko means “to spring forth leaves”. In northern Peru and Bolivia, the banana passionfruits are known as tumbos. This is one possible source of the name of the Tumbes Region of Peru.
You’re a grand old flag, / You’re a high flying flag / And forever in peace may you wave. / You’re the emblem of / The land I love, / The home of the free and the brave. / Music and lyrics by George M. Cohan / “You’re a Grand Old Flag” is a patriotic song of the United States. The song, a spirited march written by George M. Cohan, is a tribute to the U.S. flag. In addition to obvious references to the flag, it incorporates snippets of other popular songs, including one of his own. Cohan wrote it in 1906 for George Washington, Jr., his stage musical. The song was first publicly performed on February 6, the play’s opening night, at Herald Square Theater in New York City. “You’re a Grand Old Flag” quickly became the first song from a musical to sell over a million copies of sheet music. The original lyric for this perennial George M. Cohan favorite came, as Cohan later explained, from an encounter he had with a Civil War veteran who fought at Gettysburg. The two men found themselves next to each other and Cohan noticed the vet held a carefully folded but ragged old flag. The man reportedly then turned to Cohan and said, “She’s a grand old rag.” Cohan thought it was a great line and originally named his tune “You’re a Grand Old Rag.” So many groups and individuals objected to calling the flag a “rag,” however, that he “gave ‘em what they wanted” and switched words, renaming the song “You’re a Grand Old Flag.” / In the play itself, the scene with the Civil War soldier was replicated. The soldier’s comment was the lead-in to this song. Thus the first version of the chorus began, “You’re a grand old rag / You’re a high-flying flag”. Despite Cohan’s efforts to pull that version, some artists such as Billy Murray recorded it under its original title, “The Grand Old Rag”. Cohan’s second attempt at writing the chorus began, “You’re a grand old flag / Though you’re torn to a rag”. The song was used in a major production number in Cohan’s 1942 film biography, Yankee Doodle Dandy. Recordings by Pride of the 48 and Catalina Strings, were used in the film “Born on the Fourth of July (film)” (1989). In Australia, the tune of the song formed the basis of the club song of the Melbourne Football Club and other regional Australian Rules Football clubs. / From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia /
Gaucin, Southern Spain. I had so much red wine that night I barely remember how I actually got this shot, except the sunset had turned the sky into this surreal colour. I wasn’t sure at first if it was the wine or reality but in the morning after a few headache pills I was pleasantly surprised to see it wasn’t a dream. Canon 10D, 24-70mm at 39mm, f/4, 1/20 sec, ISO 200. No filters used. Dust and scratches removed in photoshop, some colour correction added to the buildings because of the sodium lights.
