Infinite future chaos – “whats that?” i here you say, / its the way we shape our future by how we live today, / the way we live our lives has a knock on effect, / we should give this world of ours some love and respect. Freak weather, wars, global warming, hurricanes and nature dying, / destruction, rainforests dissapearing, children starving, children crying, / riots, warfare, guns, chemical waste, nuclear bombs and anarchy, / extinction of animals, genetics, clones, who is it down to, powers that be?. Just think of our children, how will they survive, what will they see?, / lets all make changes so they can be happy and free, / who knows what the future holds but its down to me and you, / im just thankful i wont be around and bet that you are too.

THE SUBJECT: / The ship is the Alma Doepel., “a three masted topsail schooner, Australian built and operated with more than one hundred years of history behind her and with more history to be written.” / The ship was cared for by the members of The Alma Doepel Supporters Club. / She spends most of her time moored wharf side as a tourist attraction but a few time a year she heads off to sea for a short voyage, carrying the members and friends of the club. A great tourist attraction, she must appear in thousands of photographs around the world by now. / 2009: Sadly the owners have sent her to Melbourne and we may never see her in Port again. THE LOCATION: / She was moored at the Lady Nelson Wharf on the south bank of the Hastings River in Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia. THE MAKING OF ‘Alma Doepel with Clouds’: / This maritime B&W was photographed on one of my winter afternoon strolls. / Fuji S5500: High resolution jpg, f/8 @ 1/120sec, Auto focus, ISO100, Hand held. / Photoshop CS Visit the Watercraft collection in my BubbleSite Gallery for more ships ‘n’ boats n’n’ things. The Titanic smashed into the iceberg. / Screams broke out along with utter pandemonium. / Nevertheless, the men with their instruments in their tidy little suits, sat upright, swallowed hard, and with swift acceptance began playing the most heartfelt rendition of “Nearer My God To Thee” they’d ever played or known before… / / and then all was silent. / / sold: mounted print / / / / / /

The Sea Venture was one of the first ships to arrive in Bermuda. It was thrown accidentally off course by a hurricane and landed on the reefs intact. Its original course was with a fleet from England headed towards / Jamestown, Virginia to aid in the colonization. From being shipwrecked, the crew and passengers of the Sea Venture settled in Bermuda and benefitted from its tropical paradise and set up a small colony. This painting is a Mixed Media piece, combining original digital photography taken in Bermuda by me SBC, with my painting, and drawings. It is intended to capture the natural and surreal beauty of Bermuda through my eyes. This art won an Honorable Mention Award in the Rowayton Art Show in 2006 and First Place in the Darien Art Show in 2007. It is presently being considered for exhibition at the Royal Navy Dockyard Museum in Bermuda. Thank you for your interest, comments and purchases!
This picture is about how I felt about finding myself in a place that defys discription. The play of light on this icy little island is contextulized by the tiny ship’s antennae barely visible in the front of the image. Shot with b/w infrared film with a very battered old SLR in a part of the world that seemed to shape shift around me. I could never really find the words to explain what happened to me emotionally when I was faced with such terrifyingly sublime sights. Words are just not adequate to the task of representing what became a search for the faces of the gods I could sense just out of view. Images like this start to come close to that desire. So this picture then is really about the search for the path that will take me home. To the place I want to be in …. in the light…. taking me home….

This is the epitome of a Trawler returning to port, with the seagulls following. A common sight now, but for how much longer? / The trawler Natalie, about to enter the Looe River, Looe, Cornwall, to offload her catch, tie up and clean up, ready to return to sea the next day. I realise this similar to some of the other images but I wanted to add this image as I feel this is a tad better in some ways. I took this this afternoon – a couple of days after the last few images. Taken with Canon 5Dmk2 with 24-70mm f2.8L (55mm) @ f22, 2.5sec exp ISO100

This is another shot of the coal loader at Catherine Hill Bay NSW, Australia. This was just after the sun went down, I love taking photos here.
Photo taken from the bridge (deck 6) of our trusty little ship Polar Pioneer while crossing Drakes Passage. It was taken one handed as I held on for grim death with the other, lol. The ship was built as an ice breaker, as a result it has a much more rounded hull and NO stabilisers. During the first 24 hours of the crossing we had constant 8 meter seas coming at a 45 degree angle on the port beam. During the second 24 hours nothing much had changed except the seas had increased to 10+ meters. Made for interesting meal times. 100% of proceeds received from Redbubble in respect to sales of this item, will be donated to Bush Heritage Australia
