Copyright © Sharon Mau 2009 / All Rights Reserved Cacatua moluccensis (Gmelin 1788) “Description: whitish salmon-pink; broad crest with whitish covering feathers and deep salmon-pink underlying crest; underside of wings salmon-pink; tail-feathers orange-yellow and pink at base; bill blackish; periophthalmic ring white with faint bluish tinge; iris blackish-brown; feet dark grey. Female sometimes with reddish tinge to iris; usually with smaller head and bill. Immatures as adults; young females mostly identifiable at one year by greyish-brown iris; adult iris colour attained by four years. Length: 52 cm (20.5 ins). Distribution: island of Ceram, Indonesia; extinct on nearby islands of Saparua and Haruku; once introduced to Ambon, but now disappeared again. Habitat: forest, open woodland , cleared areas with isolated groups of trees; tall secondary vegetation, mangroves and swamp areas to 1,000 m (3,300 ft). Status: Endangered because of extensive capture for trade; population possibly only 2,000 birds; additional threat through habitat loss. Habits: usually seen singly, in pairs or small groups; gatherings of up to 16 birds on roosting trees; mostly only observed in early morning or late afternoon on way from or to roosting places; pairs stay close together; can occasionally be seen grooming each other; prefers perching in tall trees; there only conspicuous when calling; noisy; can be heard from a distance; cautious and not approachable; powerful flight with rapid, shallow wing-beats interspersed with gliding; accompanied by constant calling; flight relatively slow and usually low. Natural diet: seed, fruits, berries, nuts and probably insects and their larvae; occasionally forages in coconut plantations where they bite open young coconuts to get at the milk and soft pulp content. Breeding behaviour: exact breeding season unknown; probably from July; nests in tall, dead trees; in one case 25 m (80 ft) above ground; no further information available; egg measures 50.0×33.4 mm (1.97×1.31 ins). Aviculture: fairly noisy cockatoo with pleasant character; especially noisy when excited, but also during early morning and late afternoon; initially shy; wild-caught birds often extremely nervous; will then often only leave nestbox to feed; however young birds quickly become confiding; very hard chewers; regular supply of wood necessary; rotten wood and planks quickly chewed; colony system only possible in very large flight; trouble-free and not susceptible when acclimatised. ” Information Source Lexicon of Parrots=

Another self portrait. Ya…I’m desperate for models. / Took a little work to mount the camera in the dash and eliminate any shake for the multiple exposure. A freshly paved road also helped! / If you can’t laugh at yourself…who can you laugh at? I meant to add this and forgot. This was my inspiration… My pappy said “Son your gonna drive me to drinkin’ / If you don’t stop driving that hot rod Lincoln” Have you heard the story of the hot rod race / Where the Fords and the Lincolns were setting the pace? / Well that story is true cause I’m here to say / I was driving that model A. It’s got a Lincoln motor and its really souped up / And that model A body makes it look like a pup / It’s got eight cylinders, uses them all / It’s got overdrive, just won’t stall It’s got a four barrel carb, and dual exhaust / With foureleven gears you can really get lost. / It’s got safety tubes, but I ain’t scared / Breaks are good, tires fair Pullin out of San Pedro late one night / With the moon and the stars just shinin bright / We was headed up grapevine Hill / Passing cars like they was standing still All of a sudden, in the wink of an eye / A Cadillac sedan passed us by / I said “Boys this ones marked for me” / But by then the tail lights was all you could see Now the fellas rid me for being behind / So I thought I’d let that Lincoln unwind / Took my foot of the gas and man alive / I shoved it on down into over drive Wound it up to 110 / My speedometer said I hit top end / My foot was glued like lead to the floor / That’s all there is, and there ain’t no more Now the boys all thought that I’d lost my sense / Those telephone poles looked like a picket fence / They said “Slow down, I see spots!” / The lines on the road just looked like dots Took a corner, side swiped a truck / Crossed my fingers just for luck / My fenders was clicking the guard rail post / The guy beside me was white as a ghost We had smoke coming from out of the back / When I started gainin on that Cadillac / I knew I could catch him, I thought I could pass / But don’t you know by then we’d be low on gas I had flames coming from out of the side / Feel the tension, man what a ride / I said “Look out boys, I’ve got a license to fly” / And that Caddy pulled over and let us by All of the sudden she started knocking / Down in the dips she started rocking / I looked in the mirror. This was my 3 year old daughters first time playing in the rain. It was so amazing to watch her delight . I think we can all relate to tilting our faces up towards the the sky, trying to catch the rain as it falls on our cheeks. Yaroomba dawn – More in the Seascapes Group Canon 5D, 16-35mm at 16mm, f/22, 1/3second, ISO 50. This is the under-exposed by one stop image from the AEB set of three. This has sold a few times on redbubble, most recently a laminated print. Shot with a 35mm film with subsequent print scanned into Photoshop for a rigorous “enhancement” effort (fun and beneficial) due to such a rare capture. Clean-up was mandated. Shadow detail and full ranges of gray tones also were Photoshop candidates in retaining good contrast.

This is exactly how it looked in 1989. The ivy stays here year round. It’s weird, because it’s barren outside; winter. But when you step inside (which isn’t hard..you simply step through the wall) it looks like a summer day. Very odd & surreal feeling. Taken last week, standing in the basement looking up at the back door. More from the abandoned farmhouse series soon. :) And Happy New Year everyone!! / It’s 8:37 p.m. here. In a place as surreal as this, its hard not to day dream. This was taken at an ancient, monastery which was destroyed by Henry the eighth once upon a time. Sort of represents what i was feeling at this time, not this exact moment but this part of my life. Stopping for a second, trying to figure out where wanted to go, how i would get there. Taking a brief moment to reflect.

This is the sequel to The Approach It was captured at the same station in Shepparton, just facing in opposite directions! / Used a Sony Alpha with a 28 – 70mm in B&W mode.
