  • This a a beautiful picture that was taken in Minnesota on one of its many lakes.

  • The interior of the magnificent Hagia Sophia, or “Holy Wisdom,” in Istanbul. Originally built as a cathedral in the days of the Byzantine Empire, it was later converted to a mosque with the arrival of the Ottoman Empire, finally to become a museum after the foundation of the modern nation of Turkey. Inside, remnants of all three eras are visible: Byzantine mosaics of Christian saints, huge medallions with Arabic calligraphy naming prophets of Islam, and an open floor crowded with European tourists of every creed or none at all. This view shows the main floor as seen from a railing in the upper gallery. At the opposite side of the building, the lower and upper galleries can be seen, below a wall of windows where Byzantine mosaics are still being uncovered and restored.

  • I stared up into the moon so long that my eyes started to blur. / And when I stared so hard the moon’s face started changing. / I saw your nose. / Your lips. / Your eyes. / These past years seem like an eternity, without you by my side. / I’ve lived without your touch. / I’ve lived without your smile. / I’ve lived without your sent embedded in my sheets. / And when I wake from my dreams I pray for more sleep. / Without you, at times I feel I haven’t lived at all. / And times have moved slowly since I left you behind. / I remember like it was yesterday, when I kissed you goodbye. / I remember your first word to me, was a simple, ‘Hi’. God only knows why he keeps us so far. / Maybe so we can find out who we truly are. / Maybe I deserve this feeling of being alone. / I deserve to live in an empty home. / An empty pocket and an empty heart. I miss the love that I felt with you around. / You needn’t whisper nor make a sound. / Your very presence filled me with warmth. / Warmth that could melt the frost from my hands. / But now it’s freezing and you’re no where in site. / No one to tell me that things will be right. / No one to talk to until the early light. No one…. My eyes blurred in pain, I stared for so long. / My eyes tell me I’ve done nothing wrong. Photo and Poem By: Jose O. Mediavilla

  • There are large forces that block our path. / Fading the clarity of our future. / Forcing us to forget our dreams. / We are all Pawns in this world. / Surrounded by giant Bishops, Knights, and Kings. / Don’t do it. / Don’t give in. / In this world, a single Pawn can triumph over the Giants. / And claim his own kingdom. • Sun just set in Waikiki, Oahu, Hawaii.

  • Dramatic arrangement of carnations. Carnations were backlit from a large window. It was a sunny day and the background was well lit (a white brick wall with a small mound of grass expanding up and immediately behind it.) ISO Speed: 300 / Aperture: F/4.5 / Shutter Speed: 1/60 Shot with Nikon D-700 and Nikon 105mm Maco lens. Camera shot the image in Raw NEF format. I edited using Adobe Camera Raw.

  • Macro shot of a flower.

  • I was in my fathers study playing around with my SB-800 Flash and saw this cool little prayer book on the shelf. I set it up to take a photo and ended up using my fathers SB600 to illuminate the front cover and the 800 on top. I wanted it to look like the light was coming from the book. The picture was cool but something was missing. Then my mother came in the room to see what I was up to. I asked her to pose her hand as if reaching for the book and this is the result. The dust particles showing is a pure accident. I took the photos on the tripod. so the back light on the book was from a previous photo that I combined in photoshop. Photo By: Jose O. Mediavilla
