  • Blossom’s_Photo_Gallery Walk to the Horizon Walking out on to the viewing platform with the sun glinting on the misty horizon looks to me like you could walk to the very edge. Mt Wellington, South-West Viewing Platform. / Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Mount Wellington, rising 1271m, is a “must see” when visiting the city of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. / It is frequently covered in snow, sometimes even in summer and the lower slopes are thickly forested, but criss-crossed by many walking tracks and a few fire trails. There is also a sealed but narrow road to the summit, about 22 km from the city of Hobart. An enclosed lookout near the summit provides spectacular views of the city below and to the east, the Derwent estuary, and also glimpses of the World Heritage Area nearly 100 km to the west. / From Hobart, the most distinctive feature of Mt Wellington is the cliff of dolerite columns known as the Organ Pipes. • Blossom’s_Photo_Gallery Launceston Basin Chairlift In 1972 a chairlift was built spanning the huge natural basin, which is often filled by the surging waters of the South Esk River. The chairlift covers 457 metres, with terminal buildings at the First Basin (West Launceston) end and idling station at the Cliff Grounds side (Trevallyn). The central span of 308 metres is believed to be the longest single chairlift span in the world. The slow speed of the chairlift allows passengers to appreciate fully and photograph the spectacular views of this ancient rock gorge. Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. Canon PowerShot A650 IS Shutter Speed: 1/200sec / Aperture: F4.0 / ISO: 160
