Some feedback on a bunch of questions we have received thus far. One entry per person ? / Quite a few folks are tagging more than one image for each category – Unfortunately that’s going to mean all your entries have to be disqualified and overlooked. This is the only way we can be fair to all the other participants who only tagged once. We will make our best effort to let folks know who have tagged more than once, but it’s up to everyone to play by the rules. Don’t panic if you have multiple tags, just go back and remove the tags on all but your best image. Nobody will be disqualified before the closing date, as long as they only have a maximum of one image per category. Why these themes ? What does each theme mean anyway ? / Depending which way you look at it, the first three themes are based around the major prizes, or the prizes are based around the themes. The idea is that if you shoot that kind of stuff, odds are the prizes will be up your alley. The European and American themes are to celebrate our international expansion, and encourage folks from those regions into our bubbleverse – That doesn’t exclude the rest of us though, photos you’ve taken in those places, or just on those themes are just as valid… eg. A photo of a US flag over an embassy can make a strong photo and fit within the theme. The intention isn’t that any of the themes will be interpreted too strictly. We want to see some great images, and the themes are a way of grouping them together for prizes. Theme 1: Landscape, Nature and Travel / Landscapes, Macro of flowers, bugs and critters, wildlife as well as people and places images can all fit into this theme. Theme 2: Portrait, Fashion and Commercial / Individual faces, environmental portraiture, fashion shoots, architecture and product photography could all fit into this theme. Theme 3: Black and White, Street and Reportage / Black and white images, photo journalism, streets and cities, colour is fine in the street and photo journalism styles. Theme 4: Europe / Anything taken in Europe or with a european flavor. Scandanavian tourists in Australia are still european for example… Theme 5: America / Anything taken in America or with an american flavor. An american flag anywhere in the world is still american etc.

Greetings Fellow Bubbling Mates!! / No I have not been in a far off land, or swallowed by a whale, or doing anything that requires a hell of a lot of brain power….just socialising and doing a little work here and there to end the year on….... / I have quite OBVIOUSLY been quite SLACK of late with comments, love and opinions (“Phew!” say a whole bunch of people….) / So I’ve just dropped in to say in the new year I will have my nose to the grindstone and you should start seeing my face again a lot more regularly….... / The works that I keep seeing getting uploaded every week are just getting better and better, and frankly more intimidating!! Yes, I may have said this before, but we are now receiving some damn fine work on the bubble….which in turn is keeping a hell of a lot of us on our toes and quite a few of us wondering what the hell we can do next to compete with such talent…..It’s a hard life I tell ya ;) / Love you All, See you more soon. / Bel xxx

Greetings Everyone I hope you all are ok out there in photoland….it’s been a pretty rough ride for my here personally this last week, trips to the ER, getting sick, my x-father in law passing away over in Germany, and a personal life that looks more like a frickin car wreck! Yeah I am in serious need of a vacation, and my trip to Arches once again is postponed this week, cuz I am so sick, so next week is now in order. So naturally I am anxious to pick up the camera and do some serious shooting! How are you all doing??? I woke up this AM coughing and feeling the plane crash I am, to find a nice lil note in my inbox saying I have been accepted into the RPA-Real Photographers Alliance. Sweet! Hell ya, that works! Thanks! Well I thought that what I would do is copy from latest journal over from DA onto here, so those of you who have seen it, sorry, though the features are different! So that works ! :) Anyways, on with the show! How to better yourself as a photographer online— Let’s face it, the internet has changed our lives as we know it, and not to mention photography as well. Gone are the days of sitting in group circles gettinga critique on your work. And IF you are serious about making yourself the best you can be with a camera, I have a few sites for you. First off, these sites will blow you guys away, and I mean totally outta the water. They read like a who’s who in Nature Photography, with some of the biggest and best there is. However, don’t let that intimidate you…..the people are first class and first rate. I encourage you ALL to join, for the feedback you will get is nothing but first rate. And yes, these sites are all 100% free. So without any delay, I introduce you to a few of the sites which have helped me greatly to better my photography, which have helped me to learn, which have influenced and inspired me. Naturescapes / Nature Photographers / Fred Miranda Forums / The Luminous Landscape The Death of Film—- Kodak just announced the death of Ektachrome 400x Maybe what Kodak outta do is announce the death of themselves and their crappy P&S digital cameras. They haven’t had anything decent since God knows when and to think that they made at one time the best dslr on the market…... 100+ Places to Post and Share Your Photos Online—- Virtual Hosting brings us this article which actually leaves out a few well known places, but it is a good read none the less. Click Here “Anyone want FREE memory card recovery software?-” So what happens when you find out that you erased your card on accident or something happened that won’t let you get the images off it? You use recovery software! This program is almost downright scary actually, because it is so good, and yet it is 100% free, I introduce to you Digital Photo Recovery 3 “What Every Photographer NEEDS!-” For my birthday this year watchers, I would like THIS! Yes, an RV made for us photographers!!!! Oh see me drool all over my damned self now! “Not To be Outdone— ” with the above RV, you will also need one the brand new Seitz 6×17 160 Megapixel Large Format Cameras! Each image is about a Gig in size lol Want to know what I don’t understand—-why does this thing cost the same as a Medium Format Digital back? NOW THAT is something to think about and calls in the value of MF Backs….. “From the “Help! I am learning Lightroom” files—-” comes a site I stumbled upon yesterday which has to be one of the best Lightroom sites I have seen, Lightroomforums.net “Lexar Photography Tutorials—-” Honestly, these are remarkable and they also video tutorials as well. Honestly, some of the damned best I have ever seen that you all NEED to check out! Click Here “From the “Bad Photographer Files”-” comes THIS asshat who stalked a couple that he did the wedding photography for. How bad is bad? The family was awarded 550k ! Ya it is a GREAT read! “Photography by Clyde Butcher—” Clyde has been and always will be one of my BIGGEST influences in my work. His work is amazing! He not only looks like Ansel Adams, he is just as damn good as him, and on his website, left frame, down at the bottom, there are now 2 new PBS shows where he talks about his work and what he sees and how he does it all, you all can watch. It is amazing to hear such a master speak of how he takes a shot, sets it up, etc. Clyde is a GOD among photographers! “FEATURES!” / Here is but a small handfull of work which I have faved recently and found amazing on RB!

  • Blow me down - It's pirates!!!

It was all hands hoay on Saturday for a pirate photo shoot with the always lovely Helen McLean. James Price also came along to hold a reflector for me. I’m a bit nutty when it comes to pirates. I still remember very affectionately going to a school dress up day in grade four in pirate costume. There is something about a bunch of people who sail around and steal gold from other people sailing around that I find interesting. Of course real pirates do a lot worse. Anyways, I’ve been wanting to do a pirate shoot for ages. The thing is, now that I’ve done one, I’m thinking of all the other pirate things I haven’t done yet. So if anyone in Melbourne wants to play dress ups with me drop me a line

Here are a few I liked. I’ve been ultra busy shooting weddings that I never got around to looking through most of photos from Italy back in November. • One Photo Per Day II : 15th April - 5th May
    by berndt2

continues from part 1 Another batch …

continues from part 1 Another batch of shots-per-day. I’m enjoying the challenge so far. Being in a new country makes taking your camera everywhere a lot easier! / 15th April. Why I like drinking coffee at Puccino’s in St Albans. Even the sugar packets contain subversive messages like “Pour coffee into sachet”, “Rattle in background to create atmos”(phere) and “Pillow for Earphone”. And when you buy a coffee they give you a free “Stupid little biscuit”, and if you pay your bill you’ll receive a “Useless bit of chocolate”. Fun! / 16th April. Somewhere near Convent Garden walking to make time before an interview I saw this little mural on a wall. Eek! / 17th April. Okay, so what if the interview with ‘Group MB’ ended up being rather uncomfortable if not outright confrontational? Check out the cute Mini parked near their offices! / 18th April. St Albans. I can write 5000+word Amazing Race Recaps. But this road sign? I’m speechless. Also… intrigued. / 19th April. Roadsign, en route to St Albans. There used to be Romans here. Now they’re just called Italians. / 20th April. Kings Cross St Pancras Station. Shadowy, mysterious figures admiring the iron and glass canopy, and/or plotting shadowy mysterious things. / 21st April. Just because I’m on my way to a job interview doesn’t mean I don’t notice the little things. (And then, in the job interview, I ended up doing the opposite. Not to worry : at least the photo turned out fine) / 22nd April. Street Art and Gallery Art (and some kind of Exterior Wiring) in London. St Giles Street, I think it was. Taken about twenty minutes prior to an interview with EDialog. (That’s how I relax!) / 23rd April. View of the Thames from the rather unfortunately named town of “Staines” (it’s not that dirty, to be honest. And they have an HMV and a Costas Coffee in their town. Very civilised). I was there for a interview with BUPA. And, a coffee. / 24th April. St Albans. “Commit No Nuisance” advises the possibly ancient, and intriguingly Hobbit-sized door of the St Albans clock tower. And you have to love the masonry-work, from an age where a wall wasn’t a wall if you couldn’t shave yourself by rubbing your chin against it. (No interviews today) / 25th April. Yes, I had an NI Number interview. Yes, I had an interview with Virgin Mobile in Hook. Yes, I was fielding increasingly harrowing calls from a rival Recruitment Agent. And yes, it was Anzac Day. But sometimes… just sometimes… it’s got to be all about being friendly to the Orang-Utans. / 26th April. Watford. Apparently London has more CCTV Cameras than any other place on Earth. Which is kind of irritating in terms of what it says about national paranoia. And this is freaking WATFORD, man. Near as I can tell its global strategic value (no offence if you live there) is next to nil. Even though among other things it has an HMV and a Nero’s (which is even better than Costas for coffee, I reckon) / 27th April. Elephant & Castle. Hey, it’s a Pepsi Raw Billboard! And you know, I don’t usually drink my Pepsi naked, but I encourage good looking females to do so. (We were in the area for Yum Cha, and the billboard was just a bonus. The ‘Monks Vegetable Tofu Parcels’ with “Wood Eared Fungus” were delicious.) / 28th April. Meet Me At The Ritz… I was in town to notify the Austrian Embassy that I was going to be in London for at least 3 months. I don’t think they cared, much. Still, there was an Aston Martin DB9 parked nearby and it was a pleasant/rainy/cloudy/sunny day (in that order) so I wasn’t too concerned. / 29th April: I like the fact that they’ll catch you when you Digress! I was in The City to hunt down sweet chili sauce in a large bottle, find some Aloe Vera juice, and get my hands on a free Ben&Jerry Icecream. Result : 3 from 3. Success! / 30th April. St Albans’ “The Boot” Inn. Today was another quiet day in England, at least from where I was sitting. Today’s highlight: I bought an umbrella. / 1st May. I actually took a lot of photos in London today, many of them nice and pleasant, or showing the artistic and innovative side of London. However, in the end, I’m going with this one, because the UK obsession with CCTV is completely ridiculous and well beyond the point of paranoia. And I’m glad somebody had the guts to write it. Next to a CCTV camera. / 2nd May. Mysterious creeping moss attacks flower-like stalk micro-plants in on St Albans railway station wall. These kinds of battles rage around us every day. Yes, I’m still unemployed. I have time to ponder these things. / 3rd May. Lakes District Long Weekend, and here we have another brick in Hadrian’s Wall (Oh, come on. Like you wouldn’t make that exact same joke!) / 4th May. Lakes District Long Weekend. True to rumours you may have heard, the Lakes District does in fact contain lakes. / 5th May. Lakes District river cruise. There’s something to be said in favour of using stones over wire fencing to divide paddocks. (Electrifying stone fences, I’m told, is not easy however) ... to be continued! / .... right here

    - Photos of flowers [like the internet needs more of these] / - Photos of horses [see above] / - Photos of birds / - Overdone HDR photos. Can we all just agree that HDR looks shithouse and move on please? / - Photos that are black and white, except for one thing, which remains in colour ala Sin City. This cliche is so five minutes ago that it makes my head turn inside out when I see it. / - Things with wings photoshopped onto them [especially horses] / - Banksy inspired Military symbols mixed with nature, children, barcodes or oil references. YES WE GET IT… WAR BAD!!! I think that covers about 99.999999999% of what’s on Red Bubble.

I put some extra RAM on my laptop which I use for processing, and photo storage – when I got it home, I turned it on…and it crashed bigtime. / Sent to repairers, and they have sent it back with NOTHING on …no Lightroom full of unprocessed work, none of my RAW files …nothing. / There is a backup folder…which is empty. Some of my work is backed up…but I’ve had so much trouble with it freezing constantly (hence the need for the RAM) I hadn’t done hardly anything with it for a while…just put photos on to process when it was working better. I could cry.

I had my first wedding photo shoot on Sunday – No need to tell you how nervous I was beforehand… Luckily the couple put me very at ease and they were so happy and relaxed that it made the job easier for me. My fiance Richard did a great job at acting as my back up photographer and ended up taking great shots which certainly lowered the pressure! Here is the result: These are 2 great photos taken by Richard:

Attention all Photographers! I am writing an article on the subject of photo sharing sites & would very much appreciate your help in my research for this topic. I’m taking a poll on how many of us have accounts with several other photo sharing or photography related sites, and if you believe you are “addicted to photo sharing” like I am. It will only take a few seconds for you to answer these three one-word-answer questions: 1. How many photo sharing or photo related sites are you a member of? 2. Approximately how much time per week would you say you spend on these sites (combined time rounded up)? eg. 5-hours, 10-hours, 20-hours, 30-hours 3. Do you consider your online photo sharing as “addictive” in nature? (yes or no) PLEASE NOTE: No names will be used in the article – I’m only looking for usage numbers as a data basis for the article. / / Thank you VERY much in advance for your help! Cheers, S. / ___________ Wikipedia Photo sharing is the publishing or transfer of a user’s digital photos online, thus enabling the user to share them with others (whether publicly or privately). This functionality is provided through both websites and applications that facilitate the upload and display of images. The term can also be loosely applied to the use of online photo galleries that are set up and managed by individual users, including photoblogs. The first photo sharing sites originated during the mid to late 1990s primarily from service providing online ordering of prints (photo-finishing), but many more came into being during the early 2000s with the goal of providing permanent and centralized access to a user’s photos, and in some cases video clips too. This has resulted in different approaches to revenue generation and functionality amongst providers. My personal favourite Photo site (and I’ve got memberships with 9), is definitely RedBubble because the talent here is very high, there are no fees to join, you can give and receive peer to peer comments, challenge yourself via groups, create you own professional looking website & the site isn’t riddled with advertising! No other site has all these positive attributes. And the best bonus is that RedBubble allows me to showcase and market my artwork!

Like many other photographers out there, my camera has become part of my identity. / I take a lot of photos. / I take a lot of photos with strange perspectives. / I take a lot of photos with strange perspectives so get into strange positions at times. / So now my family and friends have a new pastime…taking photos of me taking photos. / All quite normal most of the time, although laying down on railroad tracks is probably a little unusual. The photos they seem to take the most amount of pleasure in though, are the gratuitous bum shots… ...and they are getting closer… ...and closer…musta been a wide angle lens for this one! Initially I was mortified, but now these just make me giggle. Share some of the crazy positions you’ve been caught in unawares for a laugh. Don’t be shy…my butt obviously isn’t!
