This image shows the lights remembering the Twin Towers over Manhattan on the 11th September 2007. The sombre air over the city lightens as the night descends and the beauty of the lights is exposed. The City awakes from melancholy and the streets have an electric feel as the inhabitants wander and wonder at the display.

As the red sunset faded to a violet dusk and the spiteful east coast rocks passed, I went below deck. Later that evening a strong wind sprung up and the sea became very rough and choppy. Storms were heading our way! / / I put on my wet weather gear and returned to the upper deck. With saltwater spray hitting my face like icy needles, I clung to the handrail. In the distance I could see a lighthouse and knew that our destination was in sight. We maintained our speed and direction and headed towards the light and hopefully safety, in the harbour of Cooktown. This Adirondack river is strewn with glacial boulders that came to rest as the last of the ice sheets retreated northward about 10,000 years ago. Martha found it a congenial place to rest, too, but the water surges past, compelled to constantly seek new places. At the riverbank, we are connected, linked, and attached to all of these other places by the lifeline of the river.

The Hole of Horcum is a section of the valley of the Levisham Beck in the North York Moors of northern England, upstream of Levisham and Lockton. The Hole of Horcum is a vast, 400ft deep natural hollow measuring ¾ of a mile across. It has been naturally eroded over thousands of years by the action of springs, though a more romantic legend tells us that it was created when a giant named Wade, who was in fact a Saxon chief, grabbed a ‘handful’ of earth to throw at his wife, Bell – the soil missed its target and landed to form the 800ft high hill of Blakey Topping which lies about a mile to the east.
