Polar Bear mum and cubs relax on an ice floe. / / The sea ice is shrinking at an alarming rate, which has a huge impact for the bears as this is their main hunting ground. ©2004 Sara Montour I haven’t uploaded a lot of new photos lately. I’m super busy, but I definitely miss the RedBubble community and am hoping to be more involved. Fridays are a relatively slow day for me, so perhaps that will be my RedBubble day. I took this photo in 2004 when I lived in Ireland. We spent the day by the beach and were very ready to head back home. We finally got all the way back to the car and I saw this little toy and said “hold on! We can’t leave yet! I have an idea!” I ran back to the beach and took this shot and several others.

I think deep down I have a bit of a thing for pirates. When it came time to do this shoot I seemed to have an awful lot of pirate accessories just lying around waiting to be used. It was good to get it out of my system. Only problem is now I can’t stop thinking of excuses to take more pirate photos. San Ignacio Lagoon is one of the best places in the world to see Gray whales and their calves up close. During the calving season you can go out into the lagoon in a small boat (called a panga), and after a short wait, the whale mum and calf will come up to you. They (mainly the calf) love to rub themselves against the boats and also to be scratched! You really get a close up look into their eyes! Then, just when you start to feel at one with each them, they blow salt water in your face and all over your camera! Ok, so this isn’t official, just a bit of fun on my part ;) I’m a MASSIVE Storm Thorgerson fan, the guy is my hero. / Look him up, you’ll understand. / stormthorgerson.com This is actually an image that will be used in David Lampard’s production of ‘Elegies: A Song Cycle’.. well, the balloons that is. The pig I added purely because I thought it smacked of Floyd, and it just had to be done. So here, just for you guys, is the silly version. The real pig-less version can be seen on my dA account here And if you’re interested in getting tickets to the production, please follow that link to the deviantART version as all the info is listed there. Digital composite of several shots taken at the same time as the balloons were released.
