  • The last of the three major pyramids at Giza is the pyramid for Pharaoh Menkaure. After this, the building of pyramids at the Giza plateau stopped – in fact, it’s believed this pyramid was completed after the Pharaoh’s death. From this vantage point, the pyramid seems lost and alone against the backdrop of the land and sky. It’s amazing to bear witness to the works of men who lived and died, like we all will, 4,000 years ago. UNESCO World Heritage Site /

  • Acrylic painting on A4 size Medium Texture Artist Canvas Sheet (primed) – 330 GSM. Size: 21cm x 29.5cm / _______ / This is a painting of Nefertari, favourite queen (1300 – 1250 BC) of Pharaoh Rameses II (1279 – 1213 BC). When her burial tomb was dicovered in the Valley of the Queens in 1904, it was described as the most beautiful tomb ever, by Italian Egyptologist Ernesto Schiaparelli. The tomb (or hypogeum) was built on the scale of a pharaoh’s tomb, decorated with paintings of astonishing beauty. / _____ / I added a cartouche and some hieroglyphics that was found in her tomb, on the right of her image in the painting. Some info about the cartouche: Like the body, the ba (soul), the ka (life force) and the shadow, the name, was regarded as an essential element of every individual. It had to be included in the deceased’s tomb to ensure survival in the afterlife. Nefertari’s name (enclosed in the royal cartouche), took the form of a statement: “beloved of Mut”. / _____ / Image copyright: Mariaan Krog 2008 / _____ / Available to buy in all print sizes. • Hatshepsut was born in the 15th century BC, she was the daughter of Tuthmose I and Aahmes, and was the favorite of their three children. When her two brothers died, she gained the throne upon the death of her father. To have a female pharaoh was most definitely unheard of. She was the first female queen of Egypt and a powerful one too!. /

  • A new digital painting that shows Anubis preparing a pharaoh for the Afterlife. Various symbols from Egyptian mythology and culture are strategically placed within this colourful piece to reveal secret meanings. The work was created as a tribute to the great contribution this powerful and ancient culture has made to the World. ~ Skye “Anubis is the Greek name for a jackal-headed god associated with mummification and the afterlife in Egyptian mythology. In the ancient Egyptian language, Anubis is known as Inpu, (variously spelled Anupu). The oldest known mention of Anubis is in the Old Kingdom pyramid texts, where he is associated with the burial of the king. At this time, Anubis was the most important god of the Dead but he was replaced during the Middle Kingdom by Osiris.” (Info Source: Wikipedia)

  • Did i surprise anyone with this one? Ha. My cliché postcard shot, so what?

  • Serapis Bey was incarnated as a high priest in one of the “Temples of the Sacred Fire” on Atlantis who migrated to Egypt at the time of the destruction. It is also believed that he was incarnated as the Egyptian Pharaoh Amenhotep III (who constructed the Temple of Luxor to the god Amon) and also as Leonidas, the King of Sparta who was killed in 480 BC defending the pass of Thermopylae against the invasion of Greece by Xerxes I, Emperor of the Persian Empire. A commissioned painting. 18th January 2008

  • In Egypt, during the time of the Pharaohs, The Cheetah was considered a goddess named Mafdet. Pharaohs kept Cheetahs as close companions, which symbolized protection by Mafdet. Symbols of the Cheetah are found on ritual and magic knives, statues, and in paintings on royal tombs. The Ancient Egyptians believed that The Cheetah would carry the Pharaoh’s Soul to the afterworld. The Cheetah was admired for its speed, hunting ability, and beauty, and was honoured as a symbol of royalty and prestige. 4/12 From The Ice, Snow Painting Series…. and one of my favourites. Thanks to Pryere – for taking these photographs. 5th February 2009

  • Akhenaten at the Alexandria musuem – the most beautiful pharaoh ! Featured in All Things Ancient Egyptian

  • A fan carried by a servant in Ancient Egypt represented a symbolic message, and was used for various purposes. Ancient Egyptian fans and sunshades often differed only in size. Large sunshades were used to protect one’s eyes from solar glare, or perhaps even symbolically to protect onlookers from the brilliance of the Pharaoh or another high officials. There were numerous uses for fans, and the hieroglyphic sign acted as a generic determinative used for words representing both objects. In all periods, the most common types of fan were lotiform and palmiform, imitating the leaf of the blue lotus or the frond of the date palm. Other, less frequently found types were patterned after the leaves of other plants, bird wings and such objects. From a piece of jewellery belonging to Amenemhet III, a personified Ankh holds a fan behind the Pharaoh. A actual example of this type of fan is represented by the hieroglyph which was found in the tomb of Tutankhamun. / It is believed that a fan can represent the “breath of life” when held by Isis, Nephthys or Horus, who waved it over the corpse of Osiris in order to revive him.
