ROUTE 66 IMAGE COLLECTION This 1928 gas station is often called a “doll house” because of its cottage style design. Located in McLean, Texas this is the first Phillips Petroleum Company retail outlet built outside Oklahoma. Renovated in 1992, it is now owned and and maintained by the Texas Route 66 Association. The town of McClean is working to maintain the early look of the Route 66 era and it is a not-to-missed stop if you are in the area. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ This image is not for sale. It is for your viewing pleasure only. Please don’t copy or download this image. This retro Esso gas pump shows 60 cents per gallon. It is wishful thinking that we might see those low prices again! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Please don’t copy or download this image. Beautiful beaches of Cuba a photographer’s dream! In fact, the public could be ultimately the DRIVING FORCE behind the development of biodegradable substances because litter on beaches, roadsides, and parks is an eyesore with apparent potential to harm the environment. The term biodegradable is used to describe materials that decompose through the actions of bacteria, fungi, and other living organisms. Temperature and sunlight may also play roles in the decomposition of biodegradable plastics and other substances. If such materials are not biodegradable, they remain in the environment for a long long time sometimes for 100 of years, and, if these same substances are toxic, they may pollute the soil and water. Some non biodegradable pollutants may be capable of causing harm to organisms in the environment, Whales, Dolphins and all creatures of the seas… Nonbiodegradable plastics are a particular problem, because they take up so much room in landfills or require special handling at waste incinerators. Most plastics are petroleum-based, meaning they are made from oil and other petroleum products. So, please please do not soil or sea litter, PLEASE USE A THERMOS REUSABLE CUP on the beaches instead of plastic cups, plastic water bottles, plastic bags and other non recyclables…

the ubiquitous gas pump…route 66 owes its identity to the car, but without the gas pump, there would be no way for the cars to get anywhere…of course, they were a seemingly simple pump device for dispensing gas, but it also had to calculate the amount of gas that was pumped and it had to do it in as safe a manner as possible…each brand created a unique design for the pumps that stood guard out front…and this was a time when an attendant pumped the gas, checked your oil and washed your windshield, service highly touted along the old route…and then there was the clean restroom…

gilmore gas was once the largest distributor of gasoline in the western united states, now part of a larger oil company…it started at the corner of fairfax and third in los angeles, just a few blocks off route 66…and when I say started, they were actually drilling for oil at that location…today the location houses the bustling and famous farmers market, a great place to eat and watch the world go by…be sure to check out a very cool restored gilmore gas station…

An old gas station from the 40’s or 50’s near Jefferson, Texas. It is no longer in operation and I bet the gas was quite a bit cheaper than today’s prices!
