A commission, this dog was as handsome as they come and posed well for the photo I worked from. Hairy dogs do however take a lot longer than smoothies. Mixed media original about 18” x 12”
This is a photograph of our 5 month old Italian greyhound Phoebe roo, they are just a smaller breed than the greyhound. She loves to cuddle with us and her favorite blankets. They have a very thin coat and get chilled easily. When she sleeps on this blanket we don’t always see her so we yell “where’s my Phoebe” !!! ? and her head pops up. It’s kind of an abstract doggie portrait.
Acrylic on canvas / Original work available.
Most people have cats or dogs as pets, but not this little miss. She’s adores insects and has made friends with a darling little blue caterpillar. The name ‘inchworm’ is from a song in the 1952 film, Hans Christian Anderson – which I’m fairly sure was redone by the Muppets. :) ..................♥ the fine print ♥…............... Leo is around 14 years old, we found him on the village streets several years ago, as happy as Larry stealing french batons from the cafe. He’d been some kind of failed guard dog in the mountains and we guessed he’d run down towards the sea one thunderous night, as he cant stand thunder. He still had his mountain collar, but the rest was too scratched to make out..
I met this little lady on Saturday at a wedding. No, she was not the bride! Her name is pronounced (roughly) blaheen, which is Irish for little flower. She is just the kind of dog I like being about, little, with little teeth and a gentle, friendly disposition. Big dogs are scary! Nikon D50 50mm f1.8 lens

Boxers are an incredibly graceful and very independent breed, very willing to work, but unwilling to be ordered around. Friedrun Stockmann, a German breeder whose work with boxers helped to make the breed what it is today, described the Boxer as “a gentleman amongst dogs with short coats. He not only wants the best food, he wants to be handled in a civilized manner, too.” The Boxer is not, and was never meant to be, an “attack dog”. However, lack of aggression does not equal lack of protection. Boxers are natural guard dogs, and the first breed ever to be used as Service Dogs in the US. They partner people who are blind, deaf, lame, in wheelchairs, etc. Not one of them has ever been successfully mugged. Not one of them has had their home successfully broken into when their Boxer Service Dog has been present. These dogs know when things aren’t right and they will act accordingly. A typical Boxer is a gentle creature without aggressive tendencies and a one-dog home-entertainment center. He is a quick learner, though he is just as quick to unlearn any task for which he does not see a reason. He is easy-care, intelligent, athletic, and faithful; a trustworthy pet for an active family … As Matthew Cowley said in his article ‘Canine Clowns’: A boxer is “a laugh a minute, lives life to the fullest, a maximum velocity version of canine slapstick.” What more could an dog lover ask for? A Doxie and a Golden – Two of a kind! Golden Retrievers are without any doubt smart and loyal dogs. But the Dachshund is a good dog too, smart and fast, and a comedy show on its own. The ‘Wiener’ is an early warning system. The Golden only barks when necessary and is good for ‘effect’ when you consider intruders…big bark and big presence. It takes a special person to own a doxie. This Barking Sausage is very stubborn and an independent thinker, and a little difficult to housebreak. Goldens are good at paying attention and learn quickly. ‘Hot dogs’ do not care that they are small. Waldi (that’s the German nickname for dachshund) acts like a big dog in a small body, keeps up with the big dogs and will usually be the “boss”. Golden Retrievers want nothing more than our love. They are all about pleasing their family and know our every mood. Dackel, (that’s how the Dachshund is usually called in Germany) are playful, curious, and bold, but they prefer older, considerate children who respect their dog’s space and privacy. Golden’s are the best dog for kids of all ages. gentle, reliable and trustworthy, yet protective. Doxies ‘think’ that they can rule the world and have a great heart. Golden’s have a great heart and ‘know’ that they can rule the world. The Dachshund and the Golden Retriever are both very good dogs, and to own both of them is a lot of fun. Just make sure you have a good vacuum cleaner! Thank you for being a friend /

The Rottweiler, or Rottweil Metzgerhund (“Butchers Dog”), is a “medium to large size, stalwart dog” breed originating in Germany as a herding dog. It is a hardy and very intelligent breed. Rottweilers also worked as draught dogs, pulling carts to carry meat and other products to market. “Rottweiler breeders aim at a dog of abundant strength, black coated with clearly defined rich tan markings, whose powerful appearance does not lack nobility and which is exceptionally well suited to being a companion, service and working dog.” The Rottweiler was kept busy in these traditional roles until the mid-19th century when railroads replaced droving for getting livestock to market. Although there are still Rottweilers working stock all over the world, many other roles have been found for this versatile breed. During the first and second World Wars, Rottweilers were put into service in various roles including as messenger, draught and guard dogs. Currently they are often used as search and rescue, assistance, guide dogs for the blind, guard and police dogs in addition to their traditional roles. Although an extremely versatile breed used in recent times for many other purposes, the Rottweiler is first and foremost one of the oldest, if not the oldest, of herding breeds. A multi-faceted herding and stock protection dog of exceptional ability, it is capable of working all kinds of livestock under a wide variety of conditions. The breed is an ancient one, whose history stretches back to the Roman Empire. In those times, the legions traveled with their meat on the hoof and required the assistance of working dogs to herd the cattle. One route the army traveled was through Württemberg and on to the small market town of Rottweil. The principal ancestors of the first Rottweilers during this time was supposed to be the Roman droving dog, local dogs the army met on its travels, and dogs with molosser appearance coming from England and The Netherlands. This region eventually became an important cattle area, and the descendants of the Roman cattle dogs proved their worth in both driving and protecting the cattle from robbers and wild animals. However, by the end of the 19th century as railroads became the main method for moving stock to market, the breed had declined so much that in 1900 there was only one female to be found in the town of Rottweil.
Such joy I get from seeing Tia look at me this way while purring away like crazy… Nochie is the dark cat below… He is an absolutely devine cat as well.. Tia was found as an adult cat a lifetime ago by me along the Ct. river. I know she is at least 15 yrs old plus.. She is a treasure found. So fem she is.. Her fav thing to do is run up & then down again all the trees around my yard as fast as she can.. I think she looks great and happy for an old timer.. Nochie also found as a younger kitty in an abandoned building in the city. He is at least 10 yrs old now. He is full of charming personality and likes to drive in the car with his head hanging out the window like the dogs do. He is also a found gem. I know that people dont want to buy pictures of someone elses Cats.. But.. I am really just sharing them with you here cuz i want to. Thanks for cking them out. :)
Might be just another pet portrait but I just love her. This is one of the very few pictures where she is not moving or shivering LOL. This is my little Phoebe….....Phoebers….....Phoebe Phoeberson.

Right. So it’s calendar time again! / And so I started looking through all my stuff and thought, OK, let’s make solmething for drummers… or guitarists… or bass players!! And I still might actually do that…. / But in the meantime, I figured that as my Katz calendar of last year seemed to win a few hearts, why not just leave it for another year? So here it is, for the second time round… not because I’m lazy (OK, fingers admittedly tightly crossed behind my back)... but because I think it should still be available to anyone whos emotional relationship with cats is as weird … and as loving as mine. Even thought I’d include my original description for those who don’t yet know how sick I actually am… Thanks for looking!! / _____ Anyone who knows me will be aware of my feelings towards our cats. Though we’ve provided them throughout their lives with a warm and comfortable home and kept them well fed with their favorite foods and drinks (hey wait a minute… does beer affect cat behavior?), and given them the freedom to come and go as they please (except when we lock them out when it looks like they’re gonna drag something bad into the house), and make sure they get the very best possible medical attention when they’re ill (amazing how few vets know how to deal with arsenic poisoning)... I’ve always had the feeling they hold a deep hatred for me, to the extent that I’m scared to give them access to me while I sleep. Especially as feline homicide largely goes unpunished where I live. But having said that, none of the 6 cats we’ve owned have ever chosen to live with us. It’s me and my wife who’s subjected them to that. And in fact, in their brief time as kittens, two in particular have given me the pleasure of many a heart warming photographic moment. When I look back on those moments, I realize how much love I actually have for the little scumbags. So this 100% feline calendar, with the exception of the months of July and December is exclusively devoted to little black OJ (who alas left us at a very young age), and Scratch the arrogant Siamese (who is alas still very much at large), and is a tribute to their contribution to my life. All shots originally on film, negatives scanned to digital with treatment in Photoshop. Btw… anybody want a pedigree Siamese? All offers considered!!
For some reason my little two year old girly girl, Mila, is passionate about snails… could be the influence of her older wiser brother, Hudson, I suppose. Anyway, after every rainstorm she goes out and ransacks the garden for snails, carrying them around in bunches, or filling plastic containers with hundreds of the slimy little buggers, leaving them oozing snail slime and overflowing behind bedroom doors or under the table, for me to step on later… Camera Model Canon EOS 400D DIGITAL / Shooting Date/Time 2009/10/14 01:57:44 PM / Tv( Shutter Speed ) 1/60 / Av( Aperture Value ) 6.3 / ISO Speed 200
