Close-ups of animals can reveal expressions that range from relaxed to ridiculous, and from glad to grumpy. I’ve had to retrain myself to shoot when animals are doing things, rather than waiting till they hold perfectly still for a few seconds. The resulting expressions are endless.

This is a selection of photos of our two Ragdoll cats. One is named Ragalong Miss Daisy-Mae Pussums and the other is named Ragalong Lady Lily-Rose. Daisy-Mae is a Seal Bicolor Ragdoll and Lily-Rose is a Blue Bicolor Ragdoll. Both cats are from the Ragalong Cattery at Briar Glen Farms, Sooke, British Columbia, Canada / Breeder is: Marilyn McCorkindale, Many, many of the Ragalong Ragdoll cats are award winning cats. About Ragdolls… What is a Ragdoll Cat? A Ragdoll is a large (up to 30 pounds), minimal-shedding, non-matting lovable bundle we equate to the feline equivalent of the dog. They follow you everywhere, even to the loo. The Ragdoll-a blue eyed beauty, with a strong powerful body, / fluffy, pointed coat and a heart of gold. As it’s name implies, / Ragdolls are a very sociable breed, enjoying human interaction / and are thought of as the “dog”of the cat world. Slow to mature, Ragdolls may not reach full weight and size until they are over 4 years of age. Along with their slow physical development, full maturity of coat colouration is not achieved until 2 years old. / The cat is firm and muscular with no fat except on the lower / abdomen. The overall impression of the Ragdoll is of subdued / power. Right. So it’s calendar time again! / And so I started looking through all my stuff and thought, OK, let’s make solmething for drummers… or guitarists… or bass players!! And I still might actually do that…. / But in the meantime, I figured that as my Katz calendar of last year seemed to win a few hearts, why not just leave it for another year? So here it is, for the second time round… not because I’m lazy (OK, fingers admittedly tightly crossed behind my back)... but because I think it should still be available to anyone whos emotional relationship with cats is as weird … and as loving as mine. Even thought I’d include my original description for those who don’t yet know how sick I actually am… Thanks for looking!! / _____ Anyone who knows me will be aware of my feelings towards our cats. Though we’ve provided them throughout their lives with a warm and comfortable home and kept them well fed with their favorite foods and drinks (hey wait a minute… does beer affect cat behavior?), and given them the freedom to come and go as they please (except when we lock them out when it looks like they’re gonna drag something bad into the house), and make sure they get the very best possible medical attention when they’re ill (amazing how few vets know how to deal with arsenic poisoning)... I’ve always had the feeling they hold a deep hatred for me, to the extent that I’m scared to give them access to me while I sleep. Especially as feline homicide largely goes unpunished where I live. But having said that, none of the 6 cats we’ve owned have ever chosen to live with us. It’s me and my wife who’s subjected them to that. And in fact, in their brief time as kittens, two in particular have given me the pleasure of many a heart warming photographic moment. When I look back on those moments, I realize how much love I actually have for the little scumbags. So this 100% feline calendar, with the exception of the months of July and December is exclusively devoted to little black OJ (who alas left us at a very young age), and Scratch the arrogant Siamese (who is alas still very much at large), and is a tribute to their contribution to my life. All shots originally on film, negatives scanned to digital with treatment in Photoshop. Btw… anybody want a pedigree Siamese? All offers considered!!

These are all portraits of various species of garter snake from my private collection depicted in flowers from the garden. My goal was to capture true-to-life coloration of these individuals and to show the world that a garter snake is not just the dull brown snake you remember from your childhood.
