One of Perth’s most photographed waterscape. The best photographs tend to be those unplanned moments that don’t come along all to often, when mother nature and timing cross paths. As Ansell Adam said: ””A good photograph is knowing where to stand”” but I think it is also knowing…when. I think I was extremely luck to catch this moment, as I have seen hundreds of photos of this place, but I think I have captured the amazing symmetry that the nature hides most of the time.

Western Australia and the city of Perth…...... across the Swan River

A winter`s evening on the Swan river with the reflections of the City of Perth. I had to wait awhile to shoot this image as some months before there had been a gas explosion up north and WA was on limited gas supplies and consequently all the city`s lights were getting turned off, however I think it worked in my favour, as the cooler winter weather enhanced the blues of the image.

The Crawley Edge Boatshed on the Swan River, One of the most iconic landmarks in Perth. The Boatshed is believed to have been built in the 1930’s. Taken with my 5DMkII and 24-105 f/4 ISO 100, 30 second exposure. Top Ten in Alphabet Soup group Challenge Feb 09 Nikon D60, 18-55mm. Focal length 24mm. F/11, 8secs Didn’t realize till 5 mths after this was taken that a technique I’d read about and tried on this occassion actually worked. I have just found the photo stats, which suggests to me it did work. Couldn’t find anything around that time as I’d had the computer reformatted Many thanks to Nigel Donald for sharing how to use a bit of cardboard and a long exposure Australia Day fireworks from the Northside of the River, just as it was getting underway. /

The upper Swan River, one of the Perth main atractions after heavy rain. / The sun settles behind the hills and its rays reflecting off the hills are creating this pastel water colours. / This is the area where competitors will challenge the Avon and Swan rivers in a variety of paddle and power craft in an exciting two-day time on 1st of August.
