This is the first in a series of portraits I am taking for my ‘Old Timers’ series It brings to light those who have dedicated decades to their chosen occupation, craft or trade, some by choice others through need. A trait which is rapidly diminishing in todays society where people are in constant flux between jobs, careers and hobbies. This is a salute to the Old Timers! This is Boris, a master craftsman who learnt the art of watchmaking and repairs through his father before him in Switzerland. Since emigrating to Australia mid last century he worked for others until finally establishing himself in his own premises where he has been since. An updated Bio to come soon… I hope you enjoy!

But every time I see this one, I know it is the one piece that triggers the most emotion out of me. So, I’d love to submit my Pay It Forward to a wonderful British Artist L K Southward and her graphite pencil drawing called “This is your son”. Every time I see this drawing, I have tears welling up in my eyes. I was watching the movie “The Ultimate Gift” listening to the character played by James Garner talking to his grandson when he said… ‘Learning is a gift… even if pain is your teacher”. As soon as the words had finished coming out of his mouth I honestly said out loud – YES!! Immediately I was blown away by the quote and I wrote it down and thought about its meaning for weeks. I’ve never felt so affected by a sentence before. Upon reflecting this quote I found quite confronting to realise that I spent my twenties doing everything to avoid and “run away” from my emotional pain.. Now in my 30s I’ve realised that pain was essential for me to be a more caring, less-judgemental and forgiving person. Pain seems to show us the truth in others… the truth that all people, no matter what’s on the outside… have a heart capable of breaking on the inside. Emerald Paradise As Is… / Canon PowerShot S3 IS Rainbow Springs Florida’s third largest spring, Rainbow Springs pump 600 million gallons of water daily and serves as the head water to the pristine Rainbow River. The property was acquired by the State Park Service in 1990 and is slowly being allowed to revert to its natural state. / Beautiful floral gardens surround the spring, and the area is immensely popular in the spring when the azaleas are in bloom. The state also acquired Rainbow Springs State Campground, located nearby, which was formerly privately owned. From the campground, you can tube or canoe the crystalline waters of Rainbow River, or fish for large mouth bass and other freshwater species. / A nature trail provides a lovely walk past two waterfalls and the azalea gardens, and meanders along the Rainbow River. / /

This tutorial will help you set up your own personal gallery, also known in RB-land as a bubblesite. If you are not sure what a bubblesite is, then use the link to take a look at my personal gallery of images known as Bucks Mountain Galleries. HINT: I always recommend that you print out tutorial instructions so that you don’t have to flip back and forth between screens. Now, let’s get started! SET UP YOUR SITE: “Click on “My Bubble” On the 2nd menu row, look to the far right and click on “Bubblesite” (2nd button from the right). The “Bubblesite Setup” page will appear. BUBBLESITE SETUP Site title: Type the name of your gallery Home Page Image: Click on the down arrow on the right side of the box and choose an image from the group of images you have uploaded to Redbubble. This will be a large image that will appear on your gallery home page. Choose one of your best images, one that will leave visitors wanting to see more. Home Page Content: This is the first page visitors will see. Type something that will catch their attention. Add a quote or write something about your photography business. You can also add links or an additional image. These are only suggestions, be creative and write what you think will be best as the first impression. About Page Content: A place to type something about yourself and add contact information such as an additional email address or web address. These are only suggestions, so be creative and write what you think will be best. Choose a site theme: You have three color choices for your gallery pages. Choose the one that best suits you. Black on White / White on Black / Grey on Biege IMPORTANT: At the bottom right side of the page, click “Save Changes”. MANAGE YOUR IMAGE GALLERY Make sure you saved the information in Step 1, Bubblesite setup. Now it is time to manage your image gallery. Go back to the top of the page and click on the blue underlined link “Manage the Gallery”. Your Library – Your published images are listed here. If you have images on Redbubble that are not for sale, then you will not be able to put them in the gallery. Only images for sale can be added to the gallery. NOTE: Right now only tee designs and images can be added to your gallery. Calendars cannot be added at this time. In the left hand column under Your Library, you can name your first gallery set. HINT: Give some thought to how you want your gallery to be arranged. At this time, RB does not give you the capability to re-arrange your gallery titles/folders after you are done. So you might want to write down your categories and decide the order you want them to appear before getting started. Click on the words, new set, in the box. We’ll use Landscapes as an example for the first gallery set/folder. Type the word, Landscapes (or whatever title you prefer). Click the button, “Create” ADD IMAGES TO YOUR FIRST GALLERY SET/FOLDER If you used landscapes, then go to “Your Library”, use the down arrow at the bottom right-hand side, and drag down until you see your first landscape image. Move your cursor over that image thumbnail. You should see a 4-arrow cross. Click and drag your image over the folder named “Lanscapes”. Release the mouse button and the image will be moved to the folder. When done, open the folder to check and see if the image is there. Repeat these steps for this folder and all the new folders that yourcreate. NOTE: There is a link just above the library images that will visually assist with the steps outlined above. Click on “Show Help”. When you are done, it’s time to see your gallery! Go back to the top of the page and click on the blue underlined link, “View Your Site”. When Brownie was alive we’d ride our bikes through the dry heat and down the red dirt tracks, tires popping as pebbles flew from our paths, always a hot wind harsh and unfriendly. How I hated that wind. Somehow as children though, we overcome things like this, death and heat, sometimes as adults it’s harder. / At the river we’d gather the stones that had been shaped by the water that ran forever through the valley. Its a trickle now, with the years of drought that followed. But I see it as it was, a brown green snake slithering and winding, seemingly never ending. / Once the stones had been rocks and boulders, hills or cliffs by the ocean. Something for man and animal to stand on up high, or perch, bearers to things seemingly unreachable, but now they were small and worn, carried and tumbled and rounded into submissive pebbles. All semblance of might long gone. / When we had a pile we’d skim them. Counting the bounces, seeing who could throw furthest, bounce highest. Now the stones from our hands were glorious things, slicing through the air and slicking off the water, shooting and arcing. / Alive once again. Michael Douglass, 2009.
