Yes, it’s me in the reflection :) RedBubble Art Feature “Object Studies & Concepts” I received 2nd place on the contest topic – Christmas from the Christian Camera Group on the EyeFetch site. Thanks for viewing.
Taken April 2006 with a Fuji E-510. I took this while I was on top of a mountain in Banff during the winter. There was a little cabin, and it’s interior can be seen inside my reflection in the window. Meanwhile the outdoor activity outside the cabin is reflected around my body. Looking back at this it sorta reminds me of the painting by Edouard Manet “A Bar at the Folies-Bergere” where the world the bar tendor is looking down on is reflected in the mirror behind her. Although not intended, many stories can be interpreted from this; and whatever that maybe, I’ll leave that up to the viewer :) This work has been featured in: / Weekly Them Challenges Actually it’s a funny story; I entered my work into that group to enter it into the Cameras challenge, and it was approved only after the voting had already started. Seeing as this particular group approves work based on the challenges it’s a bit strange that happened. Well I decided to let that go; it wasn’t a big deal. But two days after the challenge closed this work got featured among with the top ten :o)
The reflection was a lovely surprise:)

This is one of the photos, part of a series, that I took when I applied for art school earlier this year. It’s a self-portrait in a series about self-image – not having it, and finding it again later. That it’s more important how you feel on the inside.

I was watching the movie “The Ultimate Gift” listening to the character played by James Garner talking to his grandson when he said… ‘Learning is a gift… even if pain is your teacher”. As soon as the words had finished coming out of his mouth I honestly said out loud – YES!! Immediately I was blown away by the quote and I wrote it down and thought about its meaning for weeks. I’ve never felt so affected by a sentence before. Upon reflecting this quote I found quite confronting to realise that I spent my twenties doing everything to avoid and “run away” from my emotional pain.. Now in my 30s I’ve realised that pain was essential for me to be a more caring, less-judgemental and forgiving person. Pain seems to show us the truth in others… the truth that all people, no matter what’s on the outside… have a heart capable of breaking on the inside. It gives me great comfort that I can now view the grief of my brothers death as somewhat of a gift to me – rather than nothing but a loss FEATURED IN Prize Challenges GROUP / FEATURED IN Creative Inspirations / FEATURED IN YOU’RE ACCEPTED GROUP / FEATURED IN FIRST THINGS GROUP / FEATURED IN TYPOGRAPHY GROUP / FEATURED IN THE ART OF PAIN GROUP t-shirt available .
Emerald Paradise As Is… / Canon PowerShot S3 IS Rainbow Springs Florida’s third largest spring, Rainbow Springs pump 600 million gallons of water daily and serves as the head water to the pristine Rainbow River. The property was acquired by the State Park Service in 1990 and is slowly being allowed to revert to its natural state. / Beautiful floral gardens surround the spring, and the area is immensely popular in the spring when the azaleas are in bloom. The state also acquired Rainbow Springs State Campground, located nearby, which was formerly privately owned. From the campground, you can tube or canoe the crystalline waters of Rainbow River, or fish for large mouth bass and other freshwater species. / A nature trail provides a lovely walk past two waterfalls and the azalea gardens, and meanders along the Rainbow River. / /

If I could sum this up in one perfect word, it would be Ragadellic. Don’t you think? I guess one of my guilty pleasures are Chuck T’s. You just can’t get a more perfect shoe. Art, it is what it is. Just a quick painting done mostly with a napkin, my fingers and a knife. Acrylic on canvas with more of a watercolor effect – done very quickly and very roughly. A little something to clear my mind. Less is sometimes more. /
