This is my dad. He’s been playing chess his whole life and he is in his 80’s now, he lives and breathes chess and that’s why I always call him chess master. When I was little he taught me to play (and insisted that I do!) and today he was teaching my oldest boy to play chess. I just had to capture it, he gets so intense and thoughtful when he plays. There is a few more in this series which I will download in the coming days.

Snapped this candid shot of a youngster sitting on the streets of Nepal with a large knife. Couldn’t resist as it’s not the kind of thing that we would see every day in Australia… He was sitting next to his mother, who didn’t seem to mind too much. The young boy seemed to know what he was doing though, as i believe he was making the broom by his feet. He would use the knife in various ways, holding it between his feet or in his hands to get the straws cut right for the broom. thanks for looking Canon 400d + 18-55mm kit lens

I was mucking around with the settings of my new DSLR (Nikon D90 – Tamron 17-50mm 2.8) to see how to set it to photograph in B&W, and didn’t frame this shot, just took it without thought (of hubby). So, no touch ups for this image, it’s as shot! We’re sitting at the The Lighthouse Cafe at the Cape Nelson lighthouse (near Portland in Victoria) on our road trip from Melbourne to Darwin via the Great Ocean Road and the red centre.
