The performance troupe I’m in had our first public routine performance on Saturday at the annual “Meet The Scene” ball. We’re all fairly excited by how it went. I present to you: ‘Shorty George’, by Brat Pack (If you can’t tell, I’m the one in the middle who left his belt at work…)

Wow, what a big weekend… It started with a band shoot, then a midsumma burlesque shoot where I stalked Adrian on his first real photography gig, then a gay pride march shoot and then I totally crashed into bed and today I feel really yuck (not hung over in case you were presuming, just bloody tired). Anyways, I have only had a few minutes to even look at my shots from the first two shoots. I’m really new to this concept of event photogrpahy. As in where people are relying on you to produce something more artistic than a happy snap. So here are a few of my shots from Saturday evening. Constructive criticism, comments, advice all very welcome. I want to learn! Here is the full gallery

This weekend, it was my daughter’s very first ballet performance (three performances in two days, actually) and I was so much looking forward to photograph her, but we were not allowed to take a single photo… :( (even when the director told me some time ago that I may take photographs during the performance if I will!) / We’ll be able to buy a DVD with photos taken by a professional photographer who was hired by the school but as far as the DVD will be made for TV/PC playing and should contain a video reportage of the whole performance (taking about 1.5h) as well as group portraits and portraits of all of the 290 performers, I’m not really sure whether the photos will be big enough/in reasonable quality to get even a single print of her… Even worse, the DVD will be only available after summer holidays (in September), so we have nothing to show to our grannies who live 1000km far away. I feel so sad and disappointed about it… / On the positive side, she really enjoyed being a part of it, and after all that’s the most important :)

Some of my friends are beautiful circus freaks, yes they are. And they’re putting on a show as part of the 2008 Melbourne Fringe Festival. And it will be magnificent. You may recognise Tinkle, Mr Plonk and Ghazanfar from work by the delightful and boganic Sir Adrian Carmody. To see them in the flesh, however, is another experience altogether, as their flesh is rather nice and furthermore very talented. Circus Trick Tease is a raunchy, raucous and wildly entertaining caricature of the circus with all its quirks and foibles. A constantly quarrelling collection of misfits comprises a maladjusted sensitive strongman Mr. Plonk, his neurotic femme fatale Tinkle, and their internationally acclaimed superstar Ghazanfar! With cheek, pizzazz, and all to a toe-tapping soundtrack of contemporary musical kitsch, they play out their chaotic roles in dazzling displays of acrobatics, precarious balances, gratuitous headstands and a human skipping rope, all the while competing for the attentions and affections of each other and jostling for the adoration of the crowd. It’s on at the Festival Hub, Lithuanian Club Main Theatre, 44 Errol Street, North Melbourne, from September 26 – October 11, 2008 at 10:15pm (9:15pm on Sundays). Tickets: Conc $14/Full $18/Group $10 / 2 for 1 tickets on Sept 26 & Oct 4 / Bookings: 03 9660 9666 or from www.melbournefringe.com.au See ya there! And now for the end of the plug. / x

Hi Everyone, Last weekend (Sunday 29th March), I photographed the Weerama Festival held in Watton St, Werribee with Neil, Lee, Di, Kathryn and Belinda. Weerama consists of colourful multicultural groups, community floats, street performers, local schools and roving entertainers, celebrating the multiculturalism of the city of Wyndham. After listening to feedback on how I can improve the albums for everyone, I’ve split these up into 3 albums, Parade, People and Performers so there are not too many images to load, hope this helps. Performers, like myself, spend a lot of time in potentially nervous situations. Standing in front of a crowd who hang on everything you deliver is pretty intense, and in the studio you have an extremely short time slot to come up with some kind of magical essence that will move people. Those who perceive this as a positive experience can do it over and over again. Those who see it negatively will most likely crash and burn (as many creative people do). The pressure can be immense, but there is one simple thing that can make all the difference to anyone who finds themselves in a nervous situation…the perception of fear and excitement. Your heart races, you feel butterflies flapping wildly in your gut, your breathing intensifies, you feel a sense of heightened sensitivity as your eyes widen and you limbs quiver with anticipation. Fear or excitement? It’s both. The only difference between fear and excitement is the way you think about it. Teaching singers to deal with nervousness is something i really enjoy, because i like a good mind challenge. Most of the things that get in our way are to do with how we look at things, ourselves, and situations, and there’s a real sense of satisfaction when a performer can break through a hurdle having met the challenge head-on…literally. So lets look at the example of 2 singers waiting for an audition. Sally is nervous. That’s what she’s been telling herself all day (“God, I’m sooo nervous. I wish i wasn’t nervous. I can’t handle this nervousness!”). She sits in the waiting area to be called, wringing her hands, trying to breath in and out like her mum used to tell her before the school play would start as a kid). She’s is trying to relax, tries to distract herself from even thinking about her cold hands and her body’s shaking by disengaging from the whole idea. “Don’t think about it”, she tells herself. “Think about other things”. She withdraws within herself in an attempt to escape. Jen is also waiting to be called in. She’s been bubbling over most of the day. She was so excited this morning that she went for a short run before she got ready, just to settle herself. She’s been thinking about the audition all day, humming out her songs to herself, playing it over in her mind as her butterflies flutter away in her stomach, but she’s been telling herself “I’m soooooo excited! This is going to be so great. I’m so lucky to be here!”. She didn’t believe herself at first, tempted to called it “nerves”, but she resisted. In the waiting area she feels the excitement level increasing. She paces the floor, bouncing on the spot every now and then to discharge her adrenaline, and keeps herself focused an in a positive state of mind. Her body is doing the same things that Sally’s is, but Jen keeps moving and keeps up her positive mind speak. The two have totally different experiences with their audition. Sally has spent so much of her time trying to distance herself from thinking about the audition, that she appears disinterested in it. She has been trying to keep her body so still by attempting to relax, that as soon as she goes to sing, her cells fire up from the build-up of chemicals and she loses vocal control. She gets really down on herself and has given up before she’s even half-way through. She leaves in tears, gutted by another sense of failure. Jan bounds in to the room, and her energy is immediately obvious. She’s been releasing her adrenaline all day, so she maintains a lot of vocal control. She brings to her audition a sense of excitement and passion, and though she makes mistakes, she keeps positive and moves on, so well in fact that some of the panel don’t even notice her errors. She leaves with a feeling of success. The flight-or-fight response is our body’s way of preparing us for engagement. Whether you call it excitement or nervousness, it’s the same physical thing. Chemicals get released into our cells to prepare them with optimum power and strength, and are there to save your life. One of the mistakes people make when they have these feelings is to try and calm them down, but our body is geared up for battle, not for meditation. If you focus instead on releasing the pressure physically (jump up and down, run around the block, etc), and tell yourself over and over how excited you are (even if at first you don’t believe it), you can make a huge difference to your experience. You can then learn to USE that amazing zing and turn it into an opportunity to deliver in a way you can’t when you’re in your comfort zone. Harnessing this energy instead of denying it can turn a good delivery into something quite remarkable. Are fear and excitement the same? Try it out for yourself, and you be the judge.

I thought I would share some photos of the Taste of Chicago and some of the surrounding streets with you. I put them together as collages because I didn’t want to spend time loading 16 pictures :) / It was a really fun day and we ate lots of food ! oh but not the alligator this year….....I tried it last year and thought it was yuckie :( LOL Edit: For those of you that are unfamiliar with the Taste of Chicago…........it is where hundreds of vendors set up booths selling their food and drinks in Grant Park . There are tickets you have to purchase, I think 12 tickets for 8 dollars. They sell taste portions which are small for around 2 to 4 tickets and regular/small portions for between 4 to 12 tickets. / The strangest thing I tried was an Irish egg roll, it was a spring roll shell filled with corned beef, cabbage, onions and cheese ? served with spicy mustard….....not bad but not fantastic either. The best thing I tried was the Asian pot stickers served with a sweet and spicy sauce mmmmm yummy :) These are some well known street performers that have made the news on several occasions….....mainly the Chicago Bucket Boy’s, they were very energetic ,entertaining and fun ! / They are just trying to make an honest living while fighting the city …..........here are some links if you are interested in learning more about them. Chicagoist Video- / playing at the Bulls game two years ago / documentary Here is a collage of random shots,Union Station, Buckingham fountain, Michigan avenue and The taste of Chicago…........oh and watch out for those taxi drivers DANGEROUS!!!!!!!! people LOL / Another collage …..........Clydsdale’s getting a bath at the Taste….......oh and check out the big Budweiser truck in the back ground, The Chicago board of trade (bottom left) and I think Adams street bridge (bottom right). That’s all folks ;) thanks for reading/looking !

I’ve had my 500D for 3 months now and I have to admit, I have been very impressed with this camera! I bought the 500D to be a temporary “Gap camera” while switching back to Canon after a brief switch over to Nikon after my bad experience with the 50D and 5DMkII which both didn’t impress me all that much (Especially the 50D which still leaves me with bitter memories) I decided I would get a 500D to keep me busy until the 50D’s replacement was announced, or something better came along. Most people associate the 500D to be a cheap entry level camera that’s really capable of anything beyond being a beginners camera, this isn’t true! I’ve found the 500D to be a pleasure to work with over the last 3 months and it is definitely capable of taking fantastic photos (You can see allot of examples throughout my folio). The camera is very light weight, and paired up with the 18-55 IS or a small prime, makes a great travel/day trip camera when you don’t want to carry around big heavy lenses. The kit lenses (Both 18-55 IS and 55-250 IS) perform well on the 500D, but the sensor really shines when a prime or a L lens is used! Picture quality is good, nice colours and lots of detail. The high ISO performance from the 500D’s sensor is much better then what I was getting from my 50D, and my lenses don’t turn to mush with the 500D’s sensor (Even the kit lenses perform well). My good sharp L lenses were very soft and out resolved when used on my 50D. I have been very impressed at how good the picture quality is from the 500D, it’s a shame Canon didn’t use this sensor in the 50D. The rear LCD screen has been a joy to work with. The 500D doesn’t have a top LCD found in the models above the 500D, but all your settings are displayed on the rear screen, and can be turned off to save battery power when not needed. One feature I like from the 500D that the other cameras I’ve owned didn’t have is a timer on the rear LCD when shooting bulb exposures (Can be turned off to save battery power though). On the Canon top LCD screen, it was hard to read the timer at night (The light goes out after a few seconds, unlike on a Nikon body where you can turn the top screen light on permanently). I like the timer on the rear of the camera, so I can see the exposure time while shooting in Bulb mode and have found it handy. The autofocus has been reliable, even in low light conditions and I haven’t really had to many issues with it’s performance. The video quality is good, but not really a big fan on how Canon have put the video mode into the “Basic zone” and since I shoot in Manual mode, I have to turn the mode wheel right around to switch to video (Why couldn’t Canon made the mode wheel turn 360 degrees?) the lack of manual video controls is a bit of a let down for me (I like to shoot in manual and make my own adjustment to shutter speed and aperture) so I haven’t really used the video mode that much. The only real negative thing I could say about the 500D would be the dimmer viewfinder then I’ve been use to. It is still better then the earlier Canon’s I’ve used though! Overall, It’s a great camera for anyone that is just starting out, or looking at upgrading from a older model. I am now having a tough time deciding if I will sell the 500D to upgrade to the new EOS 7D which is the camera I’ve been looking for! All the things I liked from my Nikon’s, in a Canon body! Hiya, As I mentioned in my last journal, I had to create a piece of performance art for a sculpture project. The overall experience was painful as I am not used to being in front of the camera, but now at least I can cross another art medium of my list of exploration, as this will be my first and last performance.. / A big thanks to Muscularteeth for letting me use one of his tracks! Warning! Do not read if such diabolical manifestations really frighten you! THIS IS A TRUE STORY OF A HOUSE EXORCISM WHICH I PERFORMED ACCOMPANIED BY MY PRIEST FOR THE GLORY OF GOD! House Exorcism – Friday 20th November 2009 / NSW 2541 Australia The photos of my Priest and I at work in this house are posted in my photo album Titled House Exorcism. This is a website dedicated to those who perform such spiritual work such as myself and are Catholic in nature and are called The Swords of St Michael. Those present in the house during the House Exorcism Ritual were the occupants of the house Hayleigh, her partner Darryl, myself (Tahnja Wolter) and Fr Richard from Australia. The Disturbances at this House and Some Background / After meeting with Hayleigh, the resident of the house for 3 years, I learned from her of the many, many apparitions and physical disturbances throughout that time. Not only Hayleigh but her four children had also seen, heard and felt these disturbances. Hayleigh has many photos to share of anomalies and spectres which she has caught on camera prior to the exorcism. Such disturbances were numerous and what I discerned as both lost spirits as well as some very evil entities. Hayleigh and I would sit outside in her front yard on some chairs and discuss the presences in the house. I could clearly see in my mind a small figure with black hair which Hayleigh confirmed and also has photos of. This is not a good presence but an evil one which she also confirmed. I also immediately began seeing a black robed figure with a hood walking through her hallway and it was very, very menacing. At that point I believed it to be the devil himself and that this figure had not been following Hayleigh but had previously entered the house through someone else calling him forth. At that point Hayleigh also confirmed that the only time she had seen this very same figure was in this house and always in the hallway. She also then told me that she had found a pentacle etched into the wall by the front door of her house. I began to see this in my mind as we sat outside and I was certain that the pentacle was inverted and that black hooded figures burning red and black candles had used this symbol and called up the goat god Baphomet which is what an inverted pentacle is used for. Hayleigh then showed me the actual etch in her wall that I could clearly see was indeed inverted as I had seen in my mind. Whether intentional or not the devil had been called forth and was now in her house. I knew I would have to close this spiritual doorway which permitted the devil and his evil to enter into the house. Hayleigh proceeded to tell me that she can see and sense the presences much more than other people can who have been in the house although most people can often feel presences watching them even if they are in no way spiritually inclined. I could then spiritually see small children playing in her lounge room which Hayleigh also confirmed. She said that she had seen and heard them all through her house and often playing in the lounge room and her children had often seen them and were playing with them as well. She also has photos of the ghostly children in her house. Hayleigh told me that she had been scratched all over her body one night while in the house and has photos of those scratches. She had experienced and heard something making loud scratches in her kitchen when no one was in there and when she went to check it out, no one was there but she found two large and deep scratches from her oven all the way out to the kitchen door which led straight to the lounge room. I told her that I could spiritually see claws and long fingernails and she said that she had often felt and seen the same. The house itself, as one would imagine, had such a feeling of darkness and oppression which was clear to me was not coming from the occupants. She also told me that one night while she was taking a both that she could so clearly sense someone watching her that she got angry, got her camera and took a photo of the mirror in the bathroom and accidentally hit the record button at the same time. In the photo you can see mist on the mirror and to her terror when she played back the recording you can clearly hear a menacing voice say “Can you feel me right now!” It’s a horrible voice and is intentionally frightening. Hayleigh, her partner Darryl and her kids are all very, very lovely in character and quite loving and family oriented. I found Hayleigh to be an incredibly loving mother and person who I instantly knew needed a really, really good friend. I felt compelled to keep close to her and let her know I was there for her. I found her partner Darryl to be very sincere, caring and protective of his large family. He is responsible, kind and I always felt safe and easy around him. Once I began spiritually seeing things in the house I could feel my every word and emotion being watched carefully. Whenever I was at the house I knew I had to be on guard and spiritually aware of my behaviour and my actions. Anything sinful or negative was being looked out for by the evil in the house. I knew I had to be in a good place in my soul to keep the evil at bay and I knew at that point that I was about to begin spiritual warfare and I simply had to be very, very careful. Prior to meeting Hayleigh I had met three of her children and two of her step children. All informed me they were not Baptised, told me of the disturbances in the house and how scared they were and they asked me to Baptise them which I did and I informed my Priest that I had done so. The presences in the house from that point on could no longer touch the children but the children were still aware of their presences. But I knew once I had Baptised them that the spiritual mark of Christ would bring them much needed protection. At this point I made my Priest aware of the concern I had about this house. I told him that I had informed Hayleigh that I have helped many such people and often help ghosts who are lost and need to find their way home to God. I also informed him that she had asked me if I would help her and go through her house which I agreed to do. The pressure I felt once I agreed to help was intense and I knew that I would have to do the house exorcism as soon as possible. The date was set for Friday 20th November 2009 at 9am. Friday being a wonderful day as it was the day the Lord died and His victory became eternal. I would have preferred to have worked closer to the hour the Lord died, 3pm, but it wasn’t possible due to the children but that hour has GREAT power over evil. The devil’s most active hour is 3am in direct opposition to the hour the Lord died. Spiritual Preparation / I then began to keep myself in hours and hours of prayer. I knew I had to keep close watch on my every move and behaviour and protect my children, animals and myself which I began to do even more so than usual. I gave Hayleigh a blessed Crucifix to keep in the house and holy water and told her to bless herself and her children. I went to confession to cleanse my soul so that the devil had nothing on me with which to attack me. This is very, very important! One must cleanse the soul of evil and impurity and offer all for the glory of God. I began to eat less and offer my every trial and grief for the salvation of souls and my heart longed for one purpose, to bring glory to Jesus! I went to Church more and kept close to the Lord. I also make sure I empty my soul of all sin and attend Church on the day of all such spiritual work and when aiding ghosts, lost souls. The work begins from the moment I come in contact with such cases not just when the exorcism begins or the prayers for the dead begin. Once I am aware of an infestation or problem my work begins from that moment and the spiritual forces involved know this as well and expect it. I also continue to pray for the salvation of souls for the rest of my life and in turn I ask those spirits that have been guided home to God to pray for me which they do. And I must add that the work also begins with those who are suffering from such infestation and manifestations. I talk with the residents of the house, try to get some background information, religious information so that I can better judge how to work with those in such a house and how to help them to protect themselves and come to an understanding of the power of the Lord and His great love and mercy. I never step out from behind the Lord’s power and truth and I make no exceptions for anyone. The Lord has all the power and the glory and without knowledge of Christ or of His great love then the spiritual work cannot be done or completed. The Lord must be welcomed and wanted in someone’s home or else He cannot abide there. I am sure anyone who has read the Bible will know this and know that the law of free will applies to all souls. The Lord comes where He is wanted and where He will be loved. So I have to get to know the people who are suffering from such spiritual manifestations. I need to get a sense of where they are at in their spiritual development, let them ask me any questions and help bring them awareness and knowledge of Christ and all that He has taught me. I make them aware of my religious background and what I will do for them in the Lord’s name. I keep contact after the blessing on their home is complete to help them in what ways I can and most especially to offer the reassurance and the spiritual support that may aid them in their faith and relationship with God. I always inform my Priest of what I have learned, what I have seen spiritually, what is confirmed and what I believe to be happening within an infested home or with a person who is being tormented. I work under strict obedience to my superior who is and always will be my Priest because he has, and is, the authority of Christ on earth. I trust him with my life and I know that he takes that trust seriously and places it close to his heart as well as all those that are entrusted into his care. I follow his direction, advice and counsel and ask him any questions that I might need to know before entering into spiritual warfare such as exorcism of place or person. This is the great love, power and grace of all that God has shared on the calling of, and the gift, that we have been given through the Priesthood and it is my intent to herein share the glory of Christ through Priests such as mine who, with their sincere service, tear apart the walls of prejudice and hatred from those who have little or no understanding of the true power and beauty of the Priesthood and that includes other Priests who have desecrated their calling with wanton sinfulness and wounded our beloved Saviour with their lack of obedience to the Lord and all which He asks of them. I will always defend and uphold the true calling of the Priesthood! What I experienced Whilst in the House / Whilst at the door of the home, when I began with opening prayer I felt a cold wind come towards me. It was a very hot Australian Spring day. There were no windows open and the wind was directly in front of me as I began the prayer and held out my Crucifix. / Energy, coupled with fear and nerves began making my hand and body tremble really badly. I also felt something almost trying to shake the Crucifix from my hand which is exactly why I tied it around my neck because I’ve had that happen before. My Priest began praying with me as I struggled to control myself although I barely stumbled over the words but pressed on with more and more conviction. As my Priest began praying with me from behind me I felt a cooling sensation pour over me from my head all through my body which calmed me and I renewed my focus and pressed on. Entering the house and reciting the prayers all the way through and in all the rooms with my Priest behind me was an extraordinary feeling. It was the first time my Priest assisted me and the feeling I had with his presence there was truly that the Lord had come to pour through us His power and victory and I never once lost that feeling. I felt a shadow following me in the hallway other than my Priest. Hayleigh, up until this point had been following me with the camera as I asked her to take photos to see what might reveal itself. She said she felt something burning all up her arms like something was on fire and dashed out of the hallway and wouldn’t follow us again after that. She took photos from the lounge room. So she felt something the same time I sensed it following me. In one of the kids rooms she photographed a solid moving orb at my feet. I did sense a lot of activity in the lounge room and I could feel the little ghostly children. As I continued on in the house I spiritually heard growling and hissing. Something I hear a lot around me in all sorts of places and am use to it but it was much more intense in the house and in the hallway. When I took the incense from the box, after the prayers had been said throughout the house, a photo shows many orbs in the lounge room above me and in front of me. After I incensed the house making the sign of the Cross, I asked my Priest to give a final blessing to the house. When I saw the photo of the orbs I felt that they were waiting to be called and knew that I would call them from the lounge room and read to them from the Bible which is exactly what I did. These souls were now freed from being tormented by the evil in the house as I had finished reciting the prayers and was then about to go through the entire house with incense making the sign of the cross as I went. I did sense that there was a lot of spirits, especially children, in the lounge room and when I called the spirits forth that were lost to hear the words of the Bible I was facing the exact direction where the orbs were photographed previously. Coincidence? Hardly! There are only three photos of orbs even though we were walking through the house and at no time while we were walking did anything show in the way of dust as orbs which is what I would have expected. The only time they were seen was when we were all still and only on and around my person. There’s not one single photo of an orb around my Priest but there did appear something touching his hand. The candle also flared as I read to the spirits in the house and an anomaly that looks exactly like the holy ghost appeared above the candle. There are also photos of what was beside the candle and there’s nothing there that could have made that shape. It is clearly a solid white shaped bird and the photo was taken without the flash. There was also one more orb that appeared as I read the Bible verses for the lost souls. These are the only things we were able to capture on camera. However, for me, this day marked a personal dream goal that I will never forget for as long as I live. It was the first time I had worked side by side with my Priest and it had been a burning goal of mine for some years. Previously I worked alone but always informed my Priests of what I was doing and followed their guidance and direction. To have the assistance of my Priest was more than I can ever put into words and those photos are just as spiritual to me than anything else that might have been happening in the house. And to me, it was the most powerful of all spiritual experiences and was the epitome of two warriors in battle together, comrades for the love and glory of God, overcoming fear and proclaiming the great love and power of God.

Dear peoples Although my beautiful niece Emily (aka Grampian Beauty and Sweetheart Smile) was not in attendance at the RR festivities, as was the case in Movember, it was another memorable afternoon!!! I was pretty ticked off early on to learn that our performances at the Mallow Rat Rhymes would not be welcomed in the gorgeous beer garden. Apparently some cocktard had complained the previous month over something like the F word. However… My wrap. It was such a glorious day and a number of us continued the evening with food and wine, such as Christine, Suzan, Trace and Rob. Divine! I loved the perfect words of Ray, Marku and Karl. Anyways, I carry a small red notebook in my bag and jotted down some gems of lines (copyright of the respective artists – just briefly noted here for posterity and permanent appreciation). As always, if people don’t like any of their own lines being present in my journal, please let me know and I’ll remove them promptly) RaymondoAntonio was in his usual fine form; highlights included / A thousand kisses sweet / WHERE I FOUND YOUR SOFT SMILE / AND YOUR GENTLE HEART / Haikus / I FEAST ON YOUR SIGHS is my favourite line by Ray, but every one of these in response to Princess Leah and her own Haiku Compilation is the very essence of divine. Such sighing and swooning over your lovely words RaymondoAntonio xoxo / It’s all good / FUCK IT!! / IT’S NOT ALL GOOD!!! / beautiful and true angry man rant, vent – among my all-time faves Ray / Jimi / YOU ARE THE ULTIMATE VOODOO CHILD! / SO BEAUTIFUL! / SO ETERNALLY WILD!!! / Many ways / FIND YOUR GOD WITHIN YOU OR WITHOUT YOU. / CHOOSE THE PATH THAT SUITS YOU BEST / AND STILL RESPECT THE REST / The blame game / YES, SOMETIMES LIFE SUCKS! / BUT LOOKING FOR EXCUSES / DOESN’T CUT IT!! / Some of my favourite lines from each, above, italicised xoxo I desperately missed Sandra, but in one of my final four poems, I explained why I changed the words to this one about sadness aka Tristesse – kudos Sandra; love your wisdom, warmth and constant encouragement of me! Please come to the next on Jan 2, pretty pretty please xoxo For my first two poems, I got Suze and Trace to randomly grab them from a folder I store them in; made for some interesting picks! / Trace snared Leave it all behind / Suze reached for Teach me – recently featured in Midnight Ramblers / I also wrote something feline for Suzan and enjoyed speaking it later – fable of a feline female transformation Other selections from me included / A letter / Cracked – the first poem I ever performed at The Spinning Room / How much is enough / Oh the delights of dating – plan to perform it at TSR in Melbourne on Dec 8 / Puzzled The beautiful heart of a Primary School Teacher, Marku, was in full display via / Oilwell (about the Timor Sea, repetition of toxic shock was very powerful) / Settle Sharon Settle / I am the bully-smasher / Americash Looks like it’s my good luck; wars are popular / His concluding poem was especially beautiful; / love is sacrifice / love is everything Karl Schenk redid Beret (from the against all odds challenge at the Mollonghip slam) / Keep trying and I adored don’t shortchange me with your imagery of love / City colours / Life lived exposed, vulnerable / Feel that ticking clock and gorgeous lines included / Nothing more inevitable than change / Our achievements are our only legacies / Time is life, time is important, / To someone, to everyone / This poem floored me – awesome delivery too! “Twere a shame to not see Jonno and Michael too, but hopefully we’ll get to hear more beautiful poems from them again soon xoxo Link archive More rat rhymes Poetry in motion Rat Rhymes Rat Rhymes 3 Rat Rhymes on 3 October 2009 Raymondo @ Rat Rhymes Rat Rhymes on the 7th of Movember 2009 Cheers all / Deb xoxo

2009 has been an intensely creative and inspired year for me! I have gained a terrific list idea from a wonderful bubbler, Anthea Slade, based on her own top 10 list of her own poems in 2009. I’ve been working on one from my favourites during the year, but it has been hard to whittle so many down to just 10, but I should be there in the next few days… As for my own, it is not always about most views, most features, most comments…some of them have been things that helped me through a moment, made me look at the world differently, or where a comment really changed something for me…I have tried to provide context where any of that is the case. Hope you enjoy xoxo 1. My ABC of Seduction / Views 154 / Comments 26 / Favoritings 7 / Featured by Poetry and Beautiful Women / Reason I have lately been immersed in a lot of poems and stories prefaced with (erotic) in the title, but this is probably where it all started in 2009! And the acrostic form is a fave for me – I love the alphabet and fun wordplay! The positive reception this poem received made me first consider I might not be too old to rediscover myself in creative writing pursuits (for though I’ve worked in editorial roles for many years, that has all been business business and it has been pure joy getting back in touch with my own thoughts, feelings, passions, beliefs). So this one ranks highest for me – consider it a beginning of my RB journey please! 2. I love coffee / Views 183 / Comments 35 / Favoritings 4 / Featured by Freedom in Words and Art and Poetry and Beautiful Women / Reason This shocked a few of my friends when I posted it – a poem which includes a twist…But I love surprising people and like being true to myself. And it did start innocently when I first began writing it, until my mind drifted… 3. Grief-stricken by the 23rd Psalm / Views 105 / Comments 18 / Favoritings 1 / Featured by All Out Emotion / Reason My Grandma is one of the worst deaths I have experienced and although I am quite a different person than I was 12 years previous, it brought me back into a lot of angsty thoughts from when my Dad died on 31 October 1997. This poem (and some of the others at those emotion-charged times) were a big part in helping me grieve. I also really felt empathy and encouragement of bubblers – but not the platitudes and get over it denial that some people seem to think will help such things…Thank you to everyone who touched my heart at that time or via a follow-up I prepared for a poetry slam challenge using Against all odds as a necessary requirement of the poem xoxox. 4. Oh the delights of dating / Views 108 / Comments 28 / Favoritings 4 / Featured 0 / Reason Something funny – second thing I performed at an open mic in Melbourne. Felt much more comfortable in that as my choice than the one I oddly selected for my so-called virgin appearance at The Spinning Room (211 High St, Prahran – but refer to 10 below if you’re interested). Loved seeing the fact that so many of us endure banal, ridiculous conversations just to better get to know someone. Felt so pleased to feel so commonplace, rather than the commitment-phobic freak I usually consider myself to be LOL!!! 5. Insane? / Views 107 / Comments 7 / Favoritings 1 / Featured 0 / Reason I was feeling a little out of touch and disconnected when I wrote this, but red bubble helped me through of course! A lot of people were Bmailing at that time a bit concerned, but all was well of course – just one of those things…And now I’m stronger for it of course! Special thanks to everyone who helped xoxo 6.Emotional bulimia / Views 106 / Comments 24 / Favoritings 3 / Featured by All Out Emotion / and Verses Dark / Reason So many people found interesting lyrical connections to this poem. It was certainly the case for me too. Tool, The Used, Tori Amos – I felt privileged that the sort of thing I had written could evoke so many great songs and images for people. 7. Ice cubes erotic / Views 119 / Comments 22 / Favoritings 5 / Featured by The Community of Erotic Submisson / Reason This is a sister piece to Masqueone and I love the inspiration I find across the bubble – photography, art, poetry – all of it makes me smile and feel so energised! I was worried I would seem clumsy and unsexy, but have been so thrilled by people responding positively to what I muse about when dwelling on erotic preoccupations! 8. Unfaithful / Views 53 / Comments 15 / Favoritings 2 / Featured by Politics, Race, Sexuality and Culture / Reason I was worried a lot of people might judge me when I posted this. Much like the Rihanna song apparently offended people unused to thinking of girls cheating (harumph to that double standard…), it made me ponder on when we feel a self-fulfilling prophesy start to happen. Anyway, I’ve been pleased that some people seem to see through those words, to me, and have encouraged me in my journey. Such respect means the world to me! 9. Salvation / Views 165 / Comments 31 / Favoritings 6 / Featured by Verses Dark / Reason You save yourself or you remain unsaved Alice Sebold wrote the seven most powerful words I have learned in her book Lucky. I’m a devotee and salvation was basically about that journey xoxo 10. Cracked / Views 49 / Comments 12 / Favoritings 0 / Featured 0 / Reason This is the first poem I ever performed in Melbourne. At The Spinning Room (a location also mentioned for 4 above). It was an odd choice, yet it was the only one I printed to take. In 2010 I hope to be more selective – for I was stunned by the reaction it received. Lots of praise and comment, but it was taken in much more intimate light than I would have guessed! It has since made me second-guess myself to some extent – but hopefully not over-think too much LOL :D Love and laughter everybody! / Cheers / Deb xo PS: And here’s to a most wonderful 2010, full of food, wine, poetry, laughter, friends, health and happiness!

Dear peoples As always, my weekend was blessed with good poetry and stirring performances at the Mallow Rat Rhymes. We were indoors and treated to such lovely poets as host RaymondoAntonio, Steve Smart, Karl Schenk, Teira and, of course, me! Alongside audience members such as Christine and Suzan – a divine day! My guess is that about 20 people filled the room – much more than one might have guessed so soon to the New Year Anyways, I carry a small red notebook in my bag and jotted down some gems of lines (copyrighted to the respective artists – just briefly noted here as a means of sharing the inspiration). As always, if people don’t like any of their own lines being present in my journal, please let me know and I’ll remove them promptly! RaymondoAntonio was very shiny and romantic, sharing his first poem of 2010 and many other stylish pieces. Highlights for me included / Navigate your curves (a villanelle inspired by love and lust – two of my most precious emotions…) / NOW THE FIRE IN YOUR EYES / PROMISES EROTIC SURPRISE AS / I WRITE TANTRIC LUST WITH MY TOUCH! Eat the world (another villanelle – always makes me think of a favourite Tears for Fears song mad world) / I’LL BUILD A MANSION WITH 50 ROOMS / AND MARRY A STEPFORD WIFE WHO LOVES ME AND / TWO CHEESE BURGERS WITH THE LOT! Although I don’t always believe that love truth art conquer all, if anyone could get me to fully feel that possibility – it is Ray! My favourite stanza / I TAKE NO PRISONERS. / I FREE THE ENSLAVED. / I WRITE MY REALITY WITH THE BLOOD AND THE SWEAT / AND THE FEARS AND THE TEARS / AND THE DREAMS AND DESIRES / AND THE JOY I WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU! As a devotee of Salvador Dali, I adore Resurrection of the flesh and my anticipation for this poem cannot be overstated. From my first reading I have loved it -especially / IN THE GHOST OF THIS CONVULSIVE BEAUTY So breathtaking! Epitome of the surrealist essence! And perhaps its counterbalance / THE ASTRAL IMAGE OF ANGUISH Such enchanting despair – another brilliant insight into Ray’s wonderfully surreal and sublime mind xoxo Also inspired by Gauguin and the surrealists, The exultation of Chance and Eros / MY MUSE SCREAMS FROM THE VOID! / BEWARE THE SHAMAN TRICKSTER / AND THE GHOST IN THE MACHINE / Oddly, these lines take me to evolutionary psychologist Steven Pinker who some find controversial, but I like a lot of his thoughts on the soul, free will, etc. At the least, he is interesting even if you disagree with his rational process Chaos isn’t theory / AN IDEA CAN CHANGE THE WORLD. / A BOOK CAN MURDER MILLIONS. / A FOOL CAN RULE A PEOPLE. The blame game / YES, SOMETIMES LIFE SUCKS! / BUT LOOKING FOR EXCUSES / DOESN’T CUT IT!! / Some of my favourite lines from each, above, italicised xoxo Karl Schenk not a poet of RB, but fast becoming one of my favourites at RR each month. And I got to spend time with his beautiful wife Desi and their gorgeous child Anastasia that evening – bliss indeed xoxo This is not poetry (no expectation of Answer as there is no Question) / Departure (break me softly as I drift past your life – future vanquished) / Introduction (from when Karl first moved to Bal from Mel, May 2009, something he wrote purposefully before coming to RR) / Ana’s birth so lovely and a touching account of the arrival of a beloved child. / Such swooning for his romantic heart – really gorgeous! The very musical and lyrical Teira had a great number of moving poems. She spoke them very eloquently and while there were moments of hazy recall, Ray stepped in with short pieces while she gagthered her thoughts for recital. Very lovely, my favourite lines or poems were / Darkness / Just a feeling coming over me / Stones are cast now, far and wide / My hands are bleeding, you know they’re tied / I’m so blue for you tonight / Breathe me of night until love is dead / She sleeps / High class woman (low class blues) Oh golly, Steven Smart – where to start! He is a lovely inspiration and so encouraging of poets, performance, art. Gorgeous person, even if very keen to play a grumpy persona at times! He did a couple of poems tied to Paul Newman – one of them he’s performed before at the 2009 Poetry Idol grand final in Fed Square (second performer) Subversive is excellent – I love the line what rhymes with an Arab and I have no bombs but I have a mind / The riff on time is perfection – a stunning conclusion! Less the predator always makes me smile. It is evil genius, but also moving. I am especially impressed by some of the early thoughts on preying – great poem! Although I do happen to like Toni Collette, this poem is very cute. Another spinning monkey poem / If it spins and it has a tail / That does not make it a monkey / Monkeys, Steve is always with the monkeys!!! There were many others of note. I just couldn’t keep up with the beauty that was the day! Just as Ray offered his Dali tribute, Steve pondered the lovely Sidney Nolan and Ned Kelly paintings much like this beauty by Tim Pollock / Some information on the haiku/rooku/deathku movement amused me greatly / One about Star City Casino (Sydney) made me feel so happy to be back in Vic as I totally concurred with the emotive the ink is thin, glass is empty viewpoint. Twere a shame to not see my dear friend Sandra, Jonno and Michael too, but hopefully we’ll get to hear more beautiful poems from them again soon xoxo I did seven poems, feeling much less capable than the much more powerful poets mentioned above, but still living up to my goal of becoming more polished and confident in my words in 2010! They were For my mum Oppositional love Self-esteem Melancholy Imperfect lyrics Believe Longing All in all – a wonderful day – and great night over at Christine’s. So lovely xoxo Link archive More rat rhymes Poetry in motion Rat Rhymes Rat Rhymes 3 Rat Rhymes on 3 October 2009 Rat Rhymes on the 7th of Movember 2009 Rat Rhymes on 5 December 2009 Raymondo @ Rat Rhymes Cheers all / Deb xoxo
