A lush and rich pink Peony, at its peak of color and gently unfolding beauty. To me, each petal is a marvel of graceful gesture. Image c Lynda Lehmann.

/ I thought this poem was cute. Life Is Fine by Langston Hughes / I went down to the river, / I set down on the bank. / I tried to think but couldn’t, / So I jumped in and sank. I came up once and hollered! / I came up twice and cried! / If that water hadn’t a-been so cold / I might’ve sunk and died. But it was Cold in that water! It was cold! I took the elevator / Sixteen floors above the ground. / I thought about my baby / And thought I would jump down. I stood there and I hollered! / I stood there and I cried! / If it hadn’t a-been so high / I might’ve jumped and died. But it was High up there! It was high! So since I’m still here livin’, / I guess I will live on. / I could’ve died for love— / But for livin’ I was born Though you may hear me holler, / And you may see me cry— / I’ll be dogged, sweet baby, / If you gonna see me die. Life is fine! Fine as wine! Life is fine!
/ Lover’s Gifts II: Come to My Garden Walk by Rabindranath Tagore / Come to my garden walk, my love. Pass by the fervid flowers that / press themselves on your sight. Pass them by, stopping at some / chance joy, which like a sudden wonder of sunset illumines, yet / elude. / For lover’s gift is shy, it never tells its name, it flits / across the shade, spreading a shiver of joy along the dust. / Overtake it or miss it for ever. But a gift that can be / grasped is merely a frail flower, or a lamp with flame that will / flicker.
The light on this small peony reminds me of the first gentle kiss I received from my grand daughter when she was about a year and a half old. Always remembered.
One of my lovely brilliant pink peonies that I captured this late May in my flowerbed along the back side of my home. AS IS. CAmera: Panasonic Lumix Mega O.I.S. 5X Optical zoom DMC-LZ8

Snowberry Clearwing Moth – Hemaris or Common Clearwing (wingspan 38-50 mm), readily visits flowers by day throughout the eastern half of the U.S. and Canada, where it ranges far to the north, even into the Yukon. Ken Philip reports them in Alaska: Interior Alaska: Fairbanks vicinity; Southcentral Alaska: Index Lake. It is not difficult to see why many gardeners would mistake an Hemaris thysbe moth for a small hummingbird as it hovers, sipping nectar from flowers through a long feeding tube. The moth hovers briefly, sipping for only a few seconds before darting off to a new flower. Green body “fur” and burgundy wing scales suggest a small ruby throated hummingbird. Adults can be quite variable. Photo Taken in Kansas City, MO
