Jello, my sister’s pomeranian, is watching other dogs at play with a pensive look on his face. Perhaps he was dreaming of getting bigger and not being afraid of playing rough games with the larger dogs? At under 3½ lbs, it is certainly a good thing for him to be so careful, especially now that he has become Mr. April in the Lucky’s Friends calendar

My niece, the daughter of my heart, has kindly offered to model for me a little this afternoon. She was planning to have her gorgeous coppery auburn hair dyed to a dark brown shade this evening, and she knew that I would want to catch her before she did these unspeakable things to her hair (I know, I know, it’s her head…) We made several shots in the natural light from the window before the sun went down. I always forget to increase my ISO and I end up with slightly blurred shots because of the longer shutter speed needed to compensate, and a twitchy teen as a model. I really need to improve on this… This one has been converted to B&W for the Thoughts challenge in the B&W – Character – People Shots group. Another shot of my beautiful young niece Jade, my sister Carole’s 14 year-old daughter. Although she has the most gorgeous natural auburn hair with warm coppery highlights, I chose black and white for this portrait in order to minimize the bright red background and purple shirt which stood out too much from the rest. This is a multi-layered composite. I used Portrait Professional to fine-tune skin color and then did everything else with CS4. I used four of my own textures, used the beautiful model from hypoxia stock@ DeviantArt and added a mask and handwriting for a touch of intrigue.
